Biography

Becoming a trailblazing Country Music superstar was an improbable destiny for Charley Pride, especially considering his humble beginnings as a sharecropper’s son on a cotton farm in Sledge, Mississippi. His unique journey to the top of the music charts includes a tumultuous detour through the world of Negro league, minor league and semi-pro baseball as well as many long years of labor alongside… Read more in Amazon's Charley Pride Store

5.0 out of 5 stars I waited for years and years for it's release, May 31, 2004
This review is from: There's a Little Bit of Hank in Me (Audio CD)
It took RCA way too long to release this classic country album on cd. This is the best Hank Williams tribute lp ever recorded-no contest. I remember as a teenager in Kansas City purchasing the original vinyl album. Charley's version of "I'm so lonesome I could cry" is the best I've ever heard. This cd also has the top singles "Honky tonk blues" and "You win again" both were top hits on country radio back in 1980. If you call yourself a country music fan and you don't have this cd in your collection- get it in there pronto! Wow-what a classic! And there was another Country singer of color who was fantasic in the early 70's named Stoney Edwards. Check out one of his cd's also. His songs were good quality country music as well, but unfortunately most of his songs never hit the top 40 due to poor airplay across the U.S. Stoney's cd is also available here on amazon. Good luck and enjoy.

Stop the Presses, A Orginal Charley Pride album is available on CD. This 1980 Album in which Charley pays tribute to the first
giant country singer and songwriter, Hank Williams is about the only uncut, orginal album in Charley's old RCA catalogue that I know of that is in print!!! That in itself makes it worth buying, and it is priced cheap. The songs themselves are classics and have and will stand the test of time in Country
Music. The "new" song and one Pride orginal sums the CD up nicely," There's a Little Bit of Hank in Me", well I think there is "A Little Bit of Hank in Every country singer and music fan, as just about every performer that has stepped in front of mic has covered a Hank Williams song at one time or another. The only thing I can't figure out about this album is that years before Charley recorded and had a big hit with Hank's Kaw Liga and it is not on here, although it could have been re-recorded and put on here since this is a album of Hank Williams tunes, but I guess Kaw-Liga is readily available on collections I guess??? I guess I should just be thankful BMG released this, maybe other classic Pride albums will follow, it only took 20 something years to release this classic album.
