4.0 out of 5 stars Finally, A Chris Rush CD!
Well, quite honestly, it's not his best work--"First Rush" and "Beaming In" were better offerings. Of course, you could more easily find a case of "Billy Beer" than to find these old vinyl relics.

For those not familiar with Chris Rush, he's this guy who looks like a cue ball; big bald head and maybe a bit more handsome than Uncle Fester. But man, is he funny! He...

3.0 out of 5 stars A Glimpse at a Mad Comic Genius
Chris Rush is a superb comedian whose twisted NYC look at society is as funny as it gets. Having seen him 5-6 times and met him once on the LIRR in the late 70s/early 80s, his show was always a blast. "There's No Bones in Ice Cream" is a good but uneven snapshot of the comic genius at work. His first album, First Rush, spoiled me with its brilliance though some of it...

4.0 out of 5 stars Finally, A Chris Rush CD!, April 4, 2003
This review is from: There's No Bones in Ice Cream (Audio CD)
Well, quite honestly, it's not his best work--"First Rush" and "Beaming In" were better offerings. Of course, you could more easily find a case of "Billy Beer" than to find these old vinyl relics.

For those not familiar with Chris Rush, he's this guy who looks like a cue ball; big bald head and maybe a bit more handsome than Uncle Fester. But man, is he funny! He observes things with the perspective of a scientist on acid. This is probably because he was a former biologist. He can be sort of cerebral one minute and talking about a monkey's rear-end the next.

Anyway, I was surfing the net, and was at cdnow.com and did a search for Chris Rush. After years of no matches for this search anywhere, I actually got a result! I quickly ordered the CD "There's No Bones In Ice Cream" and it arrived on Friday. I've listened to this CD like a mental patient for the last two days.

Here's what I've concluded: A lot of this stuff is recycled material. That is, I have a bootleg from a club date in 1980 in Atlanta and some of the riffs are very similar, but if you've never heard Chris before, this is a gem! For old fans, it shows that Chris is still a true original.

This set is live from Bananas comedy club in upstate NY. The routine about his house break-in and the alarm system is new (to me) and brilliant. The insanity and serial killers bits are also worth the price of admission.

OK, and now the not so good stuff, from the perspective of a devout Rush fanatic. It says on the CD that Chris has toned down a bit, and this is true. The continued "dastardly" chuckling at the end of each joke gets a bit old. And there are enough rectal references to put Howard Stern to shame. And finally, for a CD with a 1997 date, some of the references must be 5 years older or more than even this date.

Best bits: "Insanity", "Murder Rate", "War on Drugs", "Terror", and "Aliens".

Out of 5 stars, I give this CD a 3.5. (As for the older albums, "First Rush" is a 5, and "Beaming In" is a 4.5)

"There's No Bones in Ice Cream" is a good but uneven snapshot of the comic genius at work. His first album, First Rush, spoiled me with its brilliance though some of it might be dated since it was recorded in the early 70s. Hopefully, this recording will be rereleased onto CD format someday so that all can really suffer "laughface". :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Still Funny!!!, October 26, 2009

Being a huge Chris Rush fan I was thrilled to buy this album. I have his original LP'S First Rush and Beaming in from more than 30 years ago. With this album I was able to enjoy the type of comedy that is missing in today's comics, and would recommend any comedy fan to give this and his other albums a listen to.

2.0 out of 5 stars Chris Rush Returns!, December 26, 2008
This review is from: There's No Bones in Ice Cream (Audio CD)
This CD has its funny moments but it is nowhere near his first great comedy album so many years ago called First Rush! If you still have that on cassette or record you are a lucky person! I haven't heard much from Chris over the past 20 years so I was excited to find out that some new material from him was available. If you are a big fan of his you will enjoy this CD very much as it was great to listen to his unique brand of humor even though some of the material was weak. It may not be his best work but overall it was very enjoyable. I just wish they would reissue First Rush so people who don't now much about Chris could see his comic genius!
