Review
"But Gosh Honey, There's a Possum in the John!" first caught my eye because the publisher is Calico Paws Publishing, and my love for cats-all kinds of cats-led me to see what this book is all about.
Poetry, this is what it is all about-just the most whimsical poetry you will ever want to read. The author, Vada Lee Jones, received the 1991 Golden Poet Award and we hope we are going to see much more of her delightful work.
The title of the book is the true life experience of Vada finding a possum in the master bathroom of her home. The verse is light, bouncy and hilarious. You will enjoy the possum and raccoon illustrations by Emily Snow. -- The Bookworm, by Velma Daniels/Winter Haven News Chief, Winter Haven, Florida March 15, 1992

Each page is a delight of a poem with a different illustration. . . . Simple and entertaining. For the young and the young at heart. There's a great poem, "He's Not A Pretty Monster, But He's Ours!" that begins, There's a spoon-bending monster
Who lives at our place
Existing among us,
Occupying no space. The poems are honest and tuneful, reveling in the small thrill of everyday wonder. Pain may be a puzzle, Jones informs us, but she plays with all of life:
It isn't old age,
And it isn't the gout,
It's feet and it's toes-
Do they turn in or out? Before you take yourself too seriously-or not seriously enough-Jones has something whimsical that will break a mood or lighten a load." -- The Book Reader, September-October, 1991
