Book Description

Fiction. In this group of flash fiction and short stories Greg Gerke looks at the world with a sometimes absurd, sometimes tragic, but entirely compassionate eye. Two cars crash but the drivers turn out to be a cyclist who witnessed the accident, a son is visited by his dead father, a single Rainier cherry is used as a football in a scrimmage between potheads and in the hilarious title story a 1000-pound moth is nearing the end of his days.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful surprise--read this book., January 13, 2010
This review is from: There's Something Wrong with Sven (Paperback)
I loved this book of short fiction. A friend passed it on to me. And I'm grateful. I can't say I've ever read anything like it before. This is why I gave it such high marks. Gerke has a truly unique voice--and one that is totally unrestrained. His fiction is vivid--almost cinematic. It breaks free from all manner of convention without losing the reader. In fact, it brings the reader closer. His use of language, of metaphor and imagery, is in no way forced...it's poetic in a truly felt sense. As you read one of these short stories you are likely to feel you are inside someone else's dream...or nightmare. New voices, such a this, need to be heard. Why this guy isn't better known, I can't say. If you like Dan Brown, you might not appreciate this...but if you're looking for imaginative leaps, creative envelope pushing, and a writer who is utterly unafraid: read this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining Stories, November 18, 2009
This review is from: There's Something Wrong with Sven (Paperback)
In "There's Something Wrong with Sven," Gerke offers readers an eclectic collection of stories. At times they're dark and sobering, but more often they're packed with humor and absurdity. Plus, there's lots of sex and twisted thinking going on with Gerke's entertaining cast of characters.

The stories are compelling and short--there's probably fifty in the collection--so it's a good book to turn to when you're looking for fun, quick-hitting pieces.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ridiculously Interesting Collection of 53 stories!, June 8, 2009
By
This review is from: There's Something Wrong with Sven (Paperback)
For a first effort this has been ridiculously interesting. From humorous to sublime psychological humor this author showcases a cosmopolitan understanding of the world. Several of the stories require a few re-reads, being extremely funny brings out the quirky side of the author i.e. "There's Something Wrong..." to get the subtlety. Another example is the story of "The Friend".
And, if you have an extra two minutes of time don't miss "Blueberry" along with 50+ other stories that will mostly pique your interest. Some of the sexual content is a bit brash but when taken overall this is a highly interesting collection of stories.
