5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent Songwriter/Musician, August 20, 2000

What style! This CD breaks the mold that so many blues-oriented bands fall into when they have nothing to say. It's repeatedly great listening. I bought this Cd on a hunch after seeing them play in Portland... and was quite pleased. Mark's a witty lyricist playing fat harp and belting out forceful vocals while delivering a slew of sardonic wit. Not one to rely on blues cliché, the band cooks hard and takes Mark's sense of timing and humor to the finest level I've heard an 'unknown' do in years. This ain't greasy ribs blues, it's for afficianados and thinking listeners. It's a keeper, and I hope to see him live again soon. --DK

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard to have the blues when it sounds this good..., March 9, 2000

I don't write reviews, but just have to rave about this fine album. I've played Mark Dufresne's latest CD "There's a Song in There" about a dozen times and it just gets stronger with each listen. With so many musicians resting on blues cliché stylings and lyrics, Mark and his crew have raised the bar well above rest with this fine, fine disc. He has one hellova wit and has a-maaaazing pipes to match. Memphis Slim's excellent production values are also perfectly matched to Mark's technique to make this a blues album that smiles as it hard as it kicks. -- Syl Rodriquez, Portland, OR

4.0 out of 5 stars Mark Dufresne Does It Again, February 10, 2002

Kansas City Blues singer and harmonica player Mark Dufresne wowwed us with his first effort,"Out Of That Bed". Now here he comes again with another excellent effort.

He's been thrilling audiences in the kansas City area since the 1970's again this CD showcases Dufresne's massive talent as a singer, songwroter and harmonica player. As a singer he's more than capable of holding his own with any of the Blues great out there. As a songwriter, Dufresne's songs are definitely okay. Not neccassarily masterpieces, but very good. As a harmonica player Dufresne can play the standard Blues styles with a touch of Stevie Wonder chromatic styling thrown in for good measure.

A very solid effort and definitely worth adding to your collection.
