5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful affirmation of life and love!
My oldest sister sent me this book for my first birthday away from home and family. I read the book and loved it, and put it away for a few years. I found the book again years later and reread it. I loved it even more. I have found that I get something different out of it with each subsequent reading. It is about life, and death, about hope and love. It is a...

2.0 out of 5 stars Was not worth it
I was told this book was GREAT! The guy who recommended it said it changed the way he looked at life. OK, either I am dense or he was high when he told me that, cause it didn't do anything for me! It was just a silly little book that I am sad I wasted my money on.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful affirmation of life and love!, April 10, 2002
By A Customer
My oldest sister sent me this book for my first birthday away from home and family. I read the book and loved it, and put it away for a few years. I found the book again years later and reread it. I loved it even more. I have found that I get something different out of it with each subsequent reading. It is about life, and death, about hope and love. It is a spiritual affirmation about how we endure, and that love truly spans time and space. It is also a love story of a journey not across land and water, but of an opening of the mind to see the true essense of what it means to live and love.
As the author takes his journey of discovery, the thoughtful reader cannot help but be shaped by the beautiful words of the text. When I first received this book, I couldn't imagine what a uniquely special gift I had receive. How incredible, a book that grows with you as you journey through life!

It would be a wonderful gift for someone leaving home (as I was), someone suffering from the loss of a loved one, or for someone you may not be able to see as often as you wish.

It is a truly special book on spiritual growth and discovery, without including the usual character suffering that often preceeds such a transformation in thought..

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure and Simple, October 27, 2000
By
David Cox (Plant City, Florida United States) - See all my reviews
Bach has defined the meaning of the words "pure" and "simple" in what is marketed as a childrens book. I read this book and it brought tears to my eyes. I read it to my wife and 14 tear old daughter and it held no meaning for to them. Bach has laid a foundation for thought using very simple language that grows and develops with in a mind that is open and willing to see. If you are "ground bound" with no desire to think of or acknowledge bigger things in life don't bother. If you want to feel emotion and provoke thought you must read this piece of work.

4.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful book for anyone who has ever missed someone, March 14, 2002
_There's no such place as far away_ is a short, simple book that can easily be read in 10 minutes or so; despite its simplicity, though, its message is beautiful and timeless, and is one that is often overlooked by us all.

H. Lee Shapiro's beautiful paintings provide the perfect frame for Bach's words - the images at first seem simple, but upon closer inspection their layers and detail become apparent. This little book is a wonderful gift for anyone who is far away, to remind them that you think of them, and are always with them.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book belongs on every bookshelf, February 17, 1998

This is one of those rare books that has a timeless message and a simple beauty which belie its brevity. You can read this book in ten minutes. And, you can re-read it a hundred times and feel differently about it each time. Consider it the abridged Jonathon Livingston Seagull, but don't think of it as leaving out anything of importance. I particularly like this book because, in a few minutes, it helps me remember some of the simple truths of life - that time and space cannot separate us from the one's we love. Besides that, it has some fantastic water-color illustrations which make it enjoyable to simply view. I wholeheartedly suggest this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vintage Bach !, May 22, 2002
None of Richard Bach's books have failed to impress me. Bach is one of those very few, who can understand his emotions and feelings clearly enough to write them on paper. A number of us go through life giving little thought to our thoughts, and Bach does excatly that. Do not be misled into thinking that this book is about him giving us advice on how to live out lives, instead its one man's journey through lives, and his attempts to convert each moment of his life to words.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best reading about missing, November 7, 2000
By
dieghe (Rome, Italy) - See all my reviews
Bach is not a writer: he's a pilot. But it's in this his power, because he has not to write some perfect sentences or something about, but he writes totally his essence, all the things his mind thinks with no artificious and studied language. He's great because he's immediate. This book, in its essenciality, gives us a great lesson about missing: why do you miss someone, if you could be with him/her in every moment with your mind? Missing is only an obstacle that everyone creates for himself, limiting mind abilities and the receptivity to the things you can't explain but you sure can feel...

4.0 out of 5 stars Not for the uninitiated. The meaning is not verbalised., September 1, 1997
By A Customer
The book seems to be a childs bedtime story but
contains information in an unprinted form if you
are willing to read between the lines. The book contains a few pages but an encyclopedia is contained in whats not said.

A good sequal to Jonathon Livingston Seagul

5.0 out of 5 stars Another gem!, January 15, 2007
No matter how lost I am Richard Bach always takes me back to my personal truth, to my own personal reality. He's always a sweetheart and he always makes me cry. This book is an incredibly simple reminder of an incredibly simple truth we forget most of the time. The watercolors that accompany it are magnificent and convey an uncanny visual feeling of how I feel when I read Richard's books. If you have any inkling of what Bach is all about---as far as that's anywhere near possible---then add this book to your heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mystical, touches the soul, January 3, 2007
I have had this book for over 20 years. It has been one of my best loved books for all those years. I recently purchased it for my daughter who left for college and a friend for her birthday. My daughter and friend both wept and said it was perfect for them. It is inspiring each time I read it.
