1.0 out of 5 stars a scam! DO NOT BUY THIS VERSION!!!, March 11, 2011

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Therese Raquin (Paperback)
This is a 1901 abridged translation done by one of Zola's detractors. It has none of Zola's powerful descriptions of Thérèse and Laurent's temperaments, nothing that was considered scandalous over a century ago (and that makes the book worth reading). It is LITERALLY half the length it should be and it reads like a children book no child would ever want to read because it's boring.
The scam is that it looks like a new edition. Nowhere in the on-line description does it say that it is a reprint of a 1901 translation (hence public domain for unscrupulous printers).
DO NOT BUY IT IF YOU WANT TO READ ZOLA, DO NOT BUY IT IF YOU LIKE LITERATURE.
