I purchased 2 of these for my husband and me to take camping and to music festivals. We have used a typical air mattress in the past, but it is so heavy and by the first night it's usually really saggy and needs air replaced throughout a weekend. I knew I wanted a Therm-a-rest mat for some time, and when we got our wedding money we decided to go for it.

When they arrived, we inflated them (you do need to blow them up if you want them really firm, but it is very easy and quick) and tested them out on the living room floor. I couldn't believe how comfortable an inch thick mat could be! A far cry from the foam mats at the discount stores. I placed a "D" battery under mine and could not feel it while laying on the mat.

We took them to the All Good festival and had some of the best sleep I've had camping. I did not feel the rocky, hilly terrain under my mat all weekend. They are cushy but without too much give. You can adjust the softness somewhat, using a little more or less air. Just this past weekend, we used them again at a Md. State Park, and on the gravel of our camping spot it did great as well.

My husband is over 250-some pounds, over 6 feet and his shoulders fit on the mat, and he can stretch out and not hang off the bottom. We got the large ones and they are a little longer than our sleeping bags, which is great, they fill up the tent well, don't sag or shift in the night and provide the right blend of support and softness. We have cotton sleeping bags so they do not slip or slide on the mats.

They are easy to pack away, just roll them up, squishing the air out, and then close the valve and they stay nice and small. We carry them with our yoga mat straps, no stuff sacks.

I took this for a weekend hiking/camping trip and was very pleased with it. The comfort astounded me to be perfectly honest. I was told beforehand that the self-inflatable mats usually needed some help blowing up(via mouth)the first time or so because of being packaged so tightly for a period of time. This was true, but not a problem whatsoever. It took only a couple of minutes to have it all set up and it stayed full and comfortable the entire weekend. The mat compacts fairly well and is definitely light enough to take along on any hiking trip. I think it is well worth the money.

I was wondering whether or not I should get this since I read a few reviews that the only "bad" thing about it, was that it did not include a stuff sack. At the end, I decided I was getting it and I was going to find it a stuff sack. I got one as well for my wife.
I was very surprised that when it came, it had a couple of stamps on the side saying "It now includes a stuff sack" so I was very happy that I got it and very surprised Therm-A-Rest actually did something to improve the item. Anyways, for your information, it now ships with a stuff sack.

I used the mattress this last weekend on a camping trip to an extinct volcano covered with snow, and my sleep was very good. It does inflate to about 1.5in and you do not feel the ground at all. Even the low temperature of the ground was insulated from my sleeping bag. I was very please with this thing.

Pros:
- Light weight
- Compact --> Packed dimensions: 11in x 5in
- Comfortable
- Very easy to use. It took my a couple of minutes to inflate it, and then 5min to deflate it and pack it.
- It now comes with a stuff sack
- Well made

Cons:
- The stuff sack is a little too big for it so when you deflate it, you can get it to be a lot smaller that the stuff sack, but when you put it inside, it of course gets bigger. This might not make a big difference to a lot of people but when space really matters, a couple of inches mean "a lot".

Overall, it's a great camping mattress, very good quality, and I recommend it to all of you.

But remember, if you really want to be comfortable ... sleep on your bed, there is no better place :-)

I've been using the Thermarest Trail Lite regularly for over a year. I originally purchased it because it could be rolled up quite small for backpacking. It's reliable and durable - I've never had an issue with deflating (unless I've accidentally unscrewed it) It's more comfortable than the foam ones and takes a lot less space in my pack. I haven't had an issue with it conducting cold in winter weather. I'm 5'5 and not rain-thin, but if I was a big-boned guy, it would be a little small. (I think max load is 250 - so keep that in mind if you're feeling "romantic" in the tent - wink wink.)

It has never "self-inflated" - I inevitably have to blow it up. Not a big deal. Deflating & packing tight is quite easy - particularly if you are willing to "roll out" the air twice. I can get it down much smaller than the tote bag it came in.

It seems to stain easily & does not clean well. I spilled some tea on it - have followed directions but the stains remain. (I would probably hit it with scotchguard if I got another one).

I often have issues with my Thermarest "sliding" around on my tent & ditto with sleeping bag on Thermarest. Solved that with some "non-skid rug tape" on both sides.

For durability, I do not store it "rolled up". I fold it in half & keep in plastic storage tote.
