Product Description

Product Description

This four-season Therm-a-Rest air mattress offers unbeatable stability, warmth, lightweight comfort and lasting performance year-round. A patent-pending multiple-layer design of the NeoAir Reflective Barrier creates extra warmth by reflecting heat back to the user’s body and reducing convective heat loss to the ground. In addition to minimizing air movement and convective cooling, the patent-pending Triangular Core Matrix creates an internal truss system that virtually eliminates the instability generally found on large tube-based air mattresses, assuring a more comfortable night’s sleep. More rugged fabrics provide added protection from four-season abrasion and abuse. No fiber or down insulation provides significant weight and space savings over any mattress with comparable warmth.

This is the best sleeping pad I have ever slept on. It is truly comfortable. Adjust the amount of air until it is to your liking. I started too hard opened the valve a little and It was perfect. I personally like it when I step on the pad with one foot and it goes to the bottom with little resistance but when I add the other foot it lifts the first foot slightly. when I lay down at this level I am suspended perfectly, and with a little less pressure I feel blowouts are less likely. I would say it is as comfortable as some beds I've slept on and beats any couch but I would say the large is a must as the other reviewers indicated. The pad comes with a patch which offers some protection from accidents but if I was going out in the super cold I would bring a foam pad as backup and insulation. So I love the comfort, I love the weight, I love the packed size.

I hate filling it with air. When I saw the "Pump?" I thought it was from the movie Apollo 13. "Ok people we need to fill a sleeping pad with a trash bag a big straw and some duct tape. . .now figure it out" You use the storage bag as the pump and squeeze air into it by opening the bag, shaking the bag to get air in it, and then closing the end and pressing the bag to force the air into the pad. If it sounds like this sucks... it does. It takes a long time to fill. You could probably blow it up but I worry about how gross the inside of this not inexpensive pad might get. So that is why it gets 4 stars. The night sleep is worth it but you have to work for it. I'm looking for a better manual pump that is still relatively light. I also think the other reviewer who's pad makes a lot of noise might be rubbing the two inside surfaces together.

Got my NeoAir All Season today! Yaaay! Have a backpacking trip coming up in two weeks and looking forward to leaving my SIX POUND luxury large Therm-a-rest at home. Got out the "pump bag", attached it and began to pump. !!32 minutes later!! I had put all the air into the mat that the pump bag could manage and the mat still was not firm enough to sleep on. There comes a point where the air coming out of the mat during the 3 to 4 seconds it takes to shake the bag open and get air into it equals the the amount of air going in on the next stroke. At that point you are done. I Do not want to get moisture into this light weight mat so I purchased the Exped - Mini Pump [a 2.5oz hand pump fr $20]. I attached the Mini Pump and in one minute, eight seconds the mat was ready to sleep on..Wow.!

Additional note: This is what you have to do to make the Mini Pump work with the NeoAir. Remove the the rubber sleeve that connects from the bag pump to the air nozzle on the pad. Just grab it and pull, it will come off. Now attach the rubber sleeve to the nozzle on the Mini Pump. It is a very tight fit so put the sleeve up to the nozzle and use a pair of needle nose pliers to pull it over the nozzle.

With the pump problem solved, the mat is absolute LUXURY. The regular NeoAir, not the "All Season" version has a very loud crinkling noise when you lay or move on it. Sort of like wadding up a potato chip bag. The All season version has reduced that noise by 90%. Ditch the pump bag for one that just fits and add the Mini Pump and you are back to 1 lb 9 oz. The surface of the mat is very comfortable to your skin, not sticky or plastic feeling. I'm going to be one happy backpacker!

I've tried several pads while backpacking. From Thermarest trailpro to ExpedSyn Mat UL7. I think this is the best one for the weight and R value so far. I used it in the Sierras when it got down to freezing temps, there was snow on the ground, and I was sleeping in a tent with a 15 degree bag. Never once felt the cold underneath me. It does not make a lot of crunchy noises like the other NeoAir does. My only complaint is I wish it was a little wider.

I really like this mat for its ability to fold down to the size of a nalgene bottle vs the self inflating mats that always roll up well but have a long profile. It is super light and pretty comfy too. I'm not a big guy but A friend of mine who is 6ft and 200+lbs has the same mat and he can lay and turn to either side without his hips, butt, back or shoulders laying on the ground. My ONLY complaint about this mat is a complaint that couldnt be remedied with the majority of other comparable mats out there and that is it is too narrow at 20 inches wide. Again, im not a big guy. I'm 5'6" and weigh in at 160lbs but i feel like im rolling off this thing everytime i move. So thats why 4 stars instead of 5. Really a great mat besides that and i would definately recommend it to those who spend time out in the back country or hike a bit and need a mat that is light weight and folds done well.
