I recently purchased a 27" WQHD monitor which immediately brought my GTX 560 ti to it's knees when running decent quality at 1440p. My original plan was to upgrade to a GTX 770 and stay right around the $300 range as I always have. But slowly I was coaxed into going for the GTX 780 after Nvidia's recent price drop and reading a bunch of reviews. There is a drastic difference in performance between the 770 and 780. I started shopping for 780's and came across Asus' newest version. The fact that it ran cooler and quieter than all other versions had me sold almost immediately.

The build quality is superb with this card. It makes my old MSI 560ti Twin Frozr seem super flimsy in comparison. It is quite large and quite heavy but fit in my case just fine. It is near silent at idle. It's a good pair with my Noctua nh-d14 cpu cooler. Even at full load, the gpu fans are still very quiet. Easily 9-10 dbA quieter at full load than my old 560 ti.

The performance with this card is outstanding. I've thrown everything I can at it running highest settings on 1440p and it handles everything without a problem. I'm running a Conroe i5 2500K cpu and was concerned I would be limited by the cpu as I've been in the past but this is not the case at all. I feel perfectly fine holding onto my i5 now until Intel's next gen cpus.

Running this with an i5-4670k clocked to 4.5Ghz. At 1080 everything is a breeze. I strongly recommend either 1440p or 120Hz 1080 monitor for this GPU. You will be wasting money running a single 1080p 60Hz monitor. That being said, if you have a more demanding monitor setup, this card is great at handling it. It's a little more expensive, but the price drops (currently $519 at time of purchase) make this a wonderful card for the higher end. The cooler is awesome as well. Very quiet, and very cool. Under typical gaming, I have yet to see this thing over 60, and it typically stays around 45, even under a highly demanding game.

This card is great and met all my expectations. The design is slick, the packaging is well put together, and the card performs like a beast in my rig. Its quieter than my super quiet system fans and my silent psu all while staying super cool. I have a 1080p monitor and I can crank anything up with this no problem. There aren't really any extras in the package but considering the card already comes with an awesome backplate, custom cooler, and the board is all aftermarket design there is nothing to complain there.

Edit: I've tested it playing Crysis 3, Metro: last light, Battlefield 3, and the Witcher 2 - with everything maxed at 1080p I can sometimes get temps as high as 58°C...lol. Fan is still only at 50% with those temps and I can't hear a thing.

WARNING: Amazon for some reason is excluding this card from the free game promo even though the 770 version and all other 700 series gtx's they sell include it. I contacted customer service and they didn't even read my information just sent me a generic response saying they are sorry instead of looking into it. I'm convinced that someone just made a mistake on their product page. Shipping was fast, but I don't recommend buying this particular card from Amazon until they add the promo (which NVIDIA and ASUS both advertise and Amazon supports with all other models).

With the new wave of consoles and graphically intensive games coming out in the near future, I decided it was time to upgrade from my tired Gigabyte GTX 580 - while the 580 was getting the job done, its performance is easily surpassed by the GTX 660Ti at this time, and its only going to get worse. Using Asus for most of the components in my computer and knowing their reliability in the marketplace, I decided to go with Asus this time instead of a competitor like EVGA's GTX 780 with ACX cooler. I should note that I decided to use an aftermarket cooler solution, like the DirectCU II in this video card, over the reference cooler NVidia uses as I have a lot of positive airflow in my case and I knew I would benefit from having an open cooler design like this.

The packaging of the card makes it feel very premium - the exterior box is a cardboard box, but the interior box is very high quality and premium feeling. When you open it, you find a black folio with the Asus logo on it which contains the driver and GPU tweak software, a Multilanguage instruction manual, an SLI bridge, and a PCIe power connector splitter (which splits an 8pin connector to 2 six pin connectors). Below the folio is a high density foam layer protecting the video card, which is wrapped in an anti static bag. The card has sufficient foam protecting it on all sides, so any sort of shipping gaffe should be ok, though I don't recommend throwing the box on the ground.

The physical card is certainly very premium looking and feeling - the new racing stripe design on the card is eye catching (though you're probably only going to see it once after you install it). The card is HEAVY and LONG - make sure you have adequate space in your case for installation.

First off, this card is a beast. It's huge, extremely solid, and oozes quality. Backplate not only looks good but makes the card very rigid. It will not sag. If you read reviews you'll see that the ASUS DirectCU II cooler is the best for overclocking. While other cards may come clocked higher from the factory, there is amazing headroom here (see the reviews from HardOCP and TechPowerUp). I've clocked the Core 100MHz higher than stock, and the performance is amazing. Tears through everything at 1920x1200.

I have a Fractal Design Define R4 case. A silent case with not tons of airflow. I am pleasantly surprised by the silence at idle. It is not audible from 12" away. At load, you can hear it, but it is NOT loud like an EVGA cooler is. The fan curve is very smooth, the noise that comes from the card is almost soothing, like white noise. This also surprised me, especially coming from a MSI 770 with the Twin Frozr fans, which are known to be very quiet in their own right. ASUS has delivered the goods here with the DirectCU II.

Idle temp as I type this review is 32C, Load hits around 72C for extended gaming sessions. Very impressive with my 100Mhz overclock, AND in a silent case not known for great airflow! That should tell you a lot about how the fan performs! I love the looks of the card through the case window. Looks like a beast, performs like a beast! One cool detail is the LEDs telling you the 6-pin and 8-pin PCI-E power connectors are plugged in properly. Be sure to get ASUS GPU Tweak to overclock.

If you are going to spend $500+ on a Video Card, I can't think of a better one to invest in.
