This thing is the best heatsink/fan I've ever owned. I've gone through quite a few, too.It is nearly silent and is very cool-to-the-touch. Which to me means it's doing its job. I have it on a 65W Athlon64 X2, so it's not like it has that much heat to dissipate anyways. The heatsink is really easy to install, and just requires a flick of the lever instead of having to push down hard on a tension clip with a screwdriver. I onced stabbed and ruined a motherboard when I slipped off the clip with a screwdriver before. I really can't believe how quiet it is. With this fan and a new Antec EarthWatts powersupply, I can't even hear my PC at night anymore. Also, this has one of the best lifetime expectancies, and a 6 year warranty which is nearly unheard of for heatsinks/fans.

Great Fan for a Great Deal,
This review is from: TR2-R1 Amd AM2 Cooler (Personal Computers)
This fan is well built and quiet. I have had it installed for about 2 1/2 months now and I have to check to see that the fan is running since I do not hear it. Installation was easier than walking and chewing gum at the same time. There's no need to go with an expensive fan, this one will do great!

Used with a Biostar 790 motherboard and Phenom X4 9650. This cooler works well. It maintains an acceptable CPU temp. It is large, but most cases should be large enough (I have a handcrafted wooden case with typical mid-tower dimensions). The fan makes an average amount of noise; not too loud but not silent, either. Unless you are an overclocker, this cooler should work fine. After building several computers I've learned there is no need to buy a $50 CPU cooler...unless you are an overclocker. The last CPU cooler I put in a home built computer was $20 and lasted about 4 years.

I installed this on a computer I built up for my brother with an AMD X2 5000+ Black Edition. The installation was quick and easy, for even an amateur like me. I've heard from reviews that the temperature, at stock speed does not exceed 35 degrees (celcius), but here it seems to do so, (goes around 50~60 degrees) even though the fan practically dead quiet. I can't hear a thing! My other computer that renders the same temperature rating becomes an oven after a while, so I went to check on the heatsink while it's operating and it remains cool with only hints of heat coming out, so i'm not sure if it's a faulty reading but even raising the clock speed to 3 ghz, the temperature doesn't budge. After 3 months I still wonder why but it never bothered me nor my brother! All in all this heatsink is great for its value.

I bought this to replace the noisy 3-pin stock fan on my Socket AM2 system. All the reviews said this was a very quiet and affordable 3-pin fan, even at full load. I thought I would need a 4-pin CPU fan to utilize PWM fan control to keep things quiet, but decided to give this one a shot. Installation was very easy, especially if you're already familiar with installing CPU fans. Unfortunately, when I booted the system, it was rather noisy. The sound of plastic lightly hitting on something with the rotation of each fan blade at high speed. I unscrewed the fan from the heat-sink portion and punched the rotational fan portion into its fan-guard, in a frustrated attempt to locate the source of the sound (which was not visible with inspection). This maneuver completely removed the annoying sound, and now it's operating at near silence at full speed. I would have given this 5 stars if I didn't have the initial noise issue. Good fan. Much better than any stock fan.

I was looking for the best inexpensive cooler for an AMD 64 X2 that I salvaged from an HP 3100 Slimline which had blown its third motherboard in one year! (stay away from that model!) Anyway, the proprietary CPU cooler did not fit the new case/motherboard so I needed something new. I was very happy to find the TR2-R1 AMD CPU cooler; it looks solid and of very high quality and very inexpensive; it's also very quiet, compact and keeps the 'puter @ 35C which is great for a Micro ATX with onboard video. The only change I made was I replaced the thermal paste on the heatsink with Artic Silver 5 Thermal Compound. My client has been very happy; I would recommend this cooler to anyone except extreme over-clockers.

I have this on an 89W 3800 amd64 and it keeps it well under 50C at all times, which is just very good. These CPUs can run up to about 65-70C with no ill effects. Best thing is it is very very quiet. The best fan I've had; much better than the stock AMD fan. It is very large, though. You can't fit it in a cramped case. Really great value quality item, and no money wasted on go-faster stripes for the kids.
