Thermaltake products are top of the line. If you have more than 1 SATA you need to buy enclosures for, this is the answer. Not only does it save you $$ on enclosures it makes it easier to utilize several HDDs. It opens up a whole new avenue for storage. The only thing I would suggest is snap around cases to protect the HDDs since they weren't designed to be handeled. It's like having naked HDDs. Great Product. I've been a Tiger Direct customer for years and have recently found that Amazon is consistantly cheaper on their electronics across the board.

excellent product,

I'm glad I got this. Its easy to change out the hard drive. It sits on the desk and, with my Macbook Pro and Time Machine, does automatic backups. It is about the most inexpensive way to house an external hard drive. The quality is excellent, too.

Good product. Only issue is that the drive sits loosely; and bumping the table it sits on (or opening the cover) causes the drive to unmount. There is some vibration noise when the drive is really spinning; but that can be corrected by gently touching the cover door.Worth the $$ and compared to the PITA job of removing a drive from a standard external SATA housing - it's great.

I bought this Thermaltake product about a year ago. It is almost worth the price just for the USB port, but the ability to quickly and easily swap hard drives in an out is wonderful. I occasionally had problems with the drive vibrating and making a little noise. This can be fixed by pushing on the cover, but I just put it underneath my desk so I don't hear it. The transfer speed is about the same as an internal drive (I don't notice any difference), and I am going to buy another one!

It should come with a fan to cool the hard drive while in use, but it is the best device for docking a hard drive.

I bought a refurb 500Gb SATA hard drive and was about to install it internally, but when I saw this in my weekly adverts, I thought I'd give it a try. It works exactly as described. It took about 30-40mins to format the HD I bought, both right out of the box.The power switch is great for totally disconnecting the HD and the USB devices from the system when not in use. It's a great way to move, store, and back-up things from my main computer drives.

I bought this when hard drive docks were just coming out. At the time, they only had USB connections, but nowadays you can get ones with eSATA as well. DEFINITELY get the newer eSATA ones. USB is painfully slow and inefficient for large data transfer.Other Cons: the PCB underside of the drive faces away from the flip-down shield, which I think negates the purpose of the shield. The builtin USB hub seemed nice at first, but I never ended up using it. = money wasted. I recommend one of the newer versions, such as made by iStarUSA and others, that has USB,eSATA, and SD card reader.

I could not get this to work with my computer which admittedly is on the older side. It sounded like just what I was looking for but didn't work as expected so I returned it.

Buy eSATA,

The eSATA version of this hardware is reading slightly above 1Gig as transfer of data rate. The company says in its specs, "up to 3Gbps which is a lie they admitted to me today. But, 1Gig using eSATA is ok with me TODAY. The company offers no support for booting questions although the tech told me that he knew how to do it. I still recommend the eSATA device they sell here but not this. I cannot understand why this one is more expensive than the eSATA device!
