This was a new build so motherboard was out of computer which made it easy to install backing plate.

A great fan, very quiet, installation instructions would have been nice.

After buying a fan that kept falling out of place, largely because of rather crude expanding nylon connectors that never worked properly, I ended up deciding enough was enough and resolved to buy another fan.

And I'm very happy with this one. Here's the deal. It's the usual combo fan/heatsync, with a three pin connector (if you need to know that kind of thing.) What I like about it is how it connects to the motherboard. The fan comes with a frame that fits on the back of the motherboard, with four short metal tubes (one on each corner of the frame) that fit through the holes in the motherboard that you'd usually use to hook the fan up with. The fan then screws into these tubes. The result is that the fan really can't come off.

Downside? The only downside of this approach is that you will have to remove your motherboard completely from your computer to fit it. That's a little bit of a pain, but in my view it's worth it.

I wholeheartedly recommend this fan.

I bought this fan as a replacement for another that was too loud in my HTPC. This ia quite large, but you'll be amazed at how quiet it is. I really like the metal feet and clamps to secure the fan to the motherboard. I have snapped many plastic securing clamps. Of course with this you must remove the motherboard since the clamp must mate with a bottom locking device. This was extremely easy to do. I cannot say anything negative about this CPU cooler.

Economical, efficient and waaaaay better than the stock fans Intel provides, with their cheap plastic 'feet' that bend or pop out, causing your CPU to overheat and your computer to shut down in a BSOD. I've ordered a second one to replace the CPU fan on a friend's build.

Got this to replace the stock Intel cooler on my old rig running a good old E6600. The cheap plastic connectors on the stock cooler came loose when I was moving to a new apartment and did not seem particularly secure after I snapped it back on. I wasn't looking for anything fancy, I just wanted something inexpensive that would bolt to the motherboard more securely and this fit the bill perfectly.

This cooler attaches to the motherboard using four bolts that screw into a backplate that goes on the underside of the mobo. Attaching this cooler to the mobo was much less frustrating than twisting those plastic bolts on the stock cooler until they snap in place, and the cooler is definitely on there nice and tightly when you're done.

The only problem I had was that I needed to completely remove my mobo from the case in order to get the backplate into position, which required some minor surgery/component pulling. Not a huge deal, it only added a few minutes to the process, and it was worth the effort to have the fan bolted securely to the board.

Otherwise, this fan is more or less indistinguishable from the stock cooler. Similar in size and look, and I suspect it performs similarly. No complaints here!

Re: power connector - this fan does have a 3-pin connector (instead of the 4-pin connector on the stock cooler), but I connected it to the 4-pin CPU FAN slot on my mobo (there were grooves on the pin and power slot to help determine which pins to use and which one to skip) and it works fine. The instruction sheet also specifically mentions that the extra pin can be ignored. Maybe this can be a problem with other motherboards, but it wasn't an issue with mine.

There's nothing in the description that says anything about it, but this has an old style 3 pin fan plug, which is garbage if you have a normal CPU Fan header. You won't be able to have your motherboard control the speed of this fan based on temperature, and therefore it's ridiculously loud!

This fan is probably the best designed fan for the Intel 775 (or anything I've used up to and including ones for the Core 7 920) on the market, or at least that I've found in the years I've been putting my own computer rigs together. The AMD fan system comes close but isn't quite up to par with this fan that lets you screw the fan on to your desired level of tightness. Yes, you have to take the motherboard off the case to install it (unless you have access to the back of the motherboard) but there are no cheap plastic latches like the ones that come with Intel CPUs. This fan is easy to install and once you have it on, you can be assured that it won't come off. If there is a better designed fan on the market, I haven't seen it. Simple, quiet and does the job it's supposed to.

This device should be put on every CPU fan designers desk to remind them that the job of designing a CPU fan can be done simply and effectively.

Comes with pre-installed heat sink paste so you just add the backplate onto the MB (the backplate has threaded metal inserts built in that go through the motherboard but not over the top of it), make sure the CPU is clean and set properly, and just screw the fan down. It doesn't get any better than this and I haven't seen anything on the market that beats it in terms of solid, assured, and quick easy installation. I have a whole slew of Intel CPU fans with broken plastic tabs, something which isn't going to happen with this CPU fan.

Intel 775 Cpu Fan

Whoever designed this fan should get an award.
