5.0 out of 5 stars Great Mid Cooler
it does as much as it cost. if you dont plan to OC that much then this is for you but for extremes defenatlly not. it worked for me. 2.66 to 3.0.

3.0 out of 5 stars Reliable & quiet. Good for the price.
I have dual Opteron boards running these. Since the 939/940 socket series lasted so long, I had the chance to buy more of these heat sinks. No complaints. They are reliable, quiet and they work. For overclocking, you may want to consider something with heat pipes.

A very good Fan/Heat Sink for those who limit the weight load on the motherboard. This item has the bonus of not needing the replacement of the stock heat sink support (located underneath the motherboard). Not as quiet as an orb design, but I can't hear it through my antec P180 case anyways. I'm running an 104 watt CPU that this heat sink keeps well within the optimum operating temps.

1.0 out of 5 stars cheap, not worth it, August 10, 2010
This review is from: Thermaltake Silent Boost RX CL-P0296 for AMD Opteron, Athlon 64, Athlon 64 FX, Sempron Socket 939, 754, M2 (Personal Computers)
The fan broke after about 2 months. So it's obviously very cheaply built, spend that extra money on something with more quality.

The bearings are shot and its making a racket - it didn't even last 18 months in a lightly used computer.

This fan is a great buy for what you get. It's sick looking for custom gamer pc's and it's super cool. it's also whisper-quiet. If they have a case fan I'll want to buy it as well that way i can have two quiet fans. It generally keeps my CPU temp pretty normal. The lock on mechanism worked perfectly too. No cheap parts here, quality stuff. The only bad thing i had to say was that this fan is pretty big. Do what i did and take the time to measure out the space on your MoBo for this fan and compare with dimensions on here, because it's a pretty big fan.
Great fan, love it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Garbage, December 1, 2009

I received a bunch of workstations with these HSF units and in nearly every case the bearings in the fan have failed prematurely. Amazon used to sell the compatible Thermaltake Silent 939 K8 CL-P0200 which has a far superior fan, now it's been discontinued while they still sell this piece of garbage. Go figure.

1.0 out of 5 stars not silent by any means, January 3, 2007

I got today the HSF and replaced the original HSF with the SILET BOOST RX. Don't be fooled. It is not silet by any means. I would say it is even louder than the original stock fan. I own AMD 2000 Athlon XP, and it did not silence my box. Also The temperatures are still in mid 40's on idle.

I would say it is a waste of money. Get Zelman or something else. Not this one.
