5.0 out of 5 stars Cooling Flexibility
When I bought it and still, at the moment, Amazon has the wrong image for this item.

It's what the description says, an 80mm electronics cooling fan. What's nice compared to many fans is the flexibility of use.

1. It can be set up for full speed.
2. It has a thermocouple that will control the speed based on temperature.
3. It has a manual...

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

3. It has a manual speed control. It's mounted on a PC backplane slot cover and could be mounted pretty much on anything.
4. As with any of these fans, speed may be controlled by the supply voltage.

At full speed, it's fairly noisy; at minimum speed, very quiet. So with the various control options, it will work for almost any cooling use.

They are so cheap and flexible that I bought two, one for now and one for the next project that shows up. One is now cooling a DVR mounted in a tight cabinet space. With the glass doors closed, it was running very hot. Now it's cooler than before even with the doors closed and the fan can only be heard when it's otherwise dead quiet and one listens for it.

I didn't want the blue glow of the LEDs in my equipment cabinet - they are very easy to remove - snip, snip.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good cooling option, August 2, 2007

Even thought it makes some noise when working over 50-70% (wich moves a lot of air) it's still bringing a good cooling solution for your desktop, specially for the blue LED if you're trying to mod.
Easy to install, but tricky to find by try-error way the airflow, no arrows to indicate the rotation or airflow. No idea for what are the black circles included.
Anyway, if you're searching for a low cost solution, illumination and cooling with relative silent THIS is your choice. Try the 92mm version too, very cool too.
