My first encounter with the Thermapen was in a commercial kitchen years ago and I have not been without one since. It simply is an essential tool done just exactly right. I've had only one unfortunate experience, when a temperamental companion threw it against the wall. Other than that...perfection.

It may seem crazy to spend this kind of money on "just a thermometer", but this is the best. It displays the temperature in just 3-4 seconds and has a large display. It is the thermometer used by Cook's Illustrated staff and the best-performing thermometer in tests at cookingforengineers.com.

Cons: it isn't waterproof, and you can't use it very well in your left hand (you can't see the display).

This instant read thermometer is well made and very easy to use. It makes it easy to cook thick steaks and other meats to the correct degree of doneness.

Have had the same thermapen for over 3 years now and use it for everything. very accurate and very fast. The only way to measure internal temperature on fast-cooking items like steaks or chicken breasts.

Fast and accurate, but for the price, mine was pretty fragile. It ceased working after about 2 years. Sent it to manufacturer for refurb which gained me two more years. They instructed me to rinse the joint where the probe closes and opens with alcohol frequently. Seemed strange.

best kitchen gift idea in years. Its so fast, I can measure the temp of each chicken piece individually. Now breasts come out juicy while dark meet comes out fully cooked.

I've tried all kinds of thermometers at all prices. This one was recommended by Cooks Illustrated. Well worth the price. Fast and accurate. Really fool proof.

Expensive, but it really works, Use it all the
time and it's spot on. Food is cooked to perfection.
