I purchased this to do some side by side testing of temperatures, and so the dual probes are important and very handy. The probes seem quite sensitive and respond quickly to changes in temperature.
On the other hand, this unit would not be called user friendly. For one, the battery compartment is attached by no less than 6 tiny Phillips screws, so you need to have on of those watch screwdrivers to get the little things off. I only replaced two of the screws once I installed the two batteries. The battery compartment is also important since it has the System Reset button and the switch to designate the active probes (not to mention that the unit does not have an on/off switch), so think that a battery door that doesn't require tiny screwdrivers would be a good idea.
You should also be ready to work through some tough directions if you are planning to use the temperature alarms. For example, part of direction #2 reads as follows: For example, when the delay time is set to "00H15M30S" and the temperature exceeds the limit that the user set, the alarm will not sound unless the temperature has exceeded the set temperature for 15 minutes and 30 seconds. Now it is not very difficult to understand the direction, but there is a lot of information that needs to be entered into the unit with nothing but "Set", "Up" and "Down" keys, along with a "Password" key, which seems to be of dubious value.
Of course, the best solution would be for this to be something to connect to a computer to download the data and program with a keyboard, but the units with this capability are still quite expensive.
Bottom Line: good probe for someone who wants to do simple side by side measurements; highly unlikely that most will have the patience or the need to use the alarms, passwords, or other advanced functions.
