As luck would have it, both my husband and myself picked up the same thermometer and both of us consequently are going to have to return them from wince they came (Safeway and CVS)

Why? Simply because they don't work. The first one we figured just had a battery problem, but when the second did the same thing we had a 'lightbulb moment' and figured out that these thermometers were junk.

Our testing: We have a sick child that has been running a 102.5 temperature according to our oral thermometer. We wanted something non-invasive to monitor him while he slept so we bought these. First scan showed 104.5! Yikes!!! Second and third and fourth scans showed everything from 98.7 to 101.1. Oral thermometer gave us a reading of 101.5.

So there you have it. A totally unreliable measuring device, i.e. JUNK.

You must have the temperature sensor at room temperature. If you measure the temperature of the same person several times within quick succession, the values you receive with be higher each time because the sensor was not allowed to come to room temperature.

Allow two minutes between taking temperatures. And remember to clean the sensor with an alcohol swab between different individuals to reduce infection risk. Wait 60 seconds after cleaning to take a temperature reading to allow the sensor to return to room temperature.

my son recently had a fever 103.2 rectally - this thermometer said his temperature was 97.2. enough said. don't waste your money.
