As luck would have it, both my husband and myself picked up the same thermometer and both of us consequently are going to have to return them from wince they came (Safeway and CVS)

Why? Simply because they don't work. The first one we figured just had a battery problem, but when the second did the same thing we had a 'lightbulb moment' and figured out that these thermometers were junk.

Our testing: We have a sick child that has been running a 102.5 temperature according to our oral thermometer. We wanted something non-invasive to monitor him while he slept so we bought these. First scan showed 104.5! Yikes!!! Second and third and fourth scans showed everything from 98.7 to 101.1. Oral thermometer gave us a reading of 101.5.

So there you have it. A totally unreliable measuring device, i.e. JUNK.

You must have the temperature sensor at room temperature. If you measure the temperature of the same person several times within quick succession, the values you receive with be higher each time because the sensor was not allowed to come to room temperature.

Allow two minutes between taking temperatures. And remember to clean the sensor with an alcohol swab between different individuals to reduce infection risk. Wait 60 seconds after cleaning to take a temperature reading to allow the sensor to return to room temperature.

my son recently had a fever 103.2 rectally - this thermometer said his temperature was 97.2. enough said. don't waste your money.

This thermometer is a complete waste of money and very frustrating!! It will read multiple different temps again and again. I have replaced the battery and still read 106.7 to 102.5 to 99.5 and more! When you child is sick you need to know what the actual temp is. I'm so fed up I threw it in the trash!

I place my order 3 days ago and i was surprise to receive it so fast I even tought that I got charge for receiving my order so fast but i didnt i will definetly buy from this company again :>)))

sorry... but I don't know what the other reviewers are talking about. I bought this as a second thermometer that the whole family could use. I have compared it with the reading I got taking a rectal temperature for my newborn, and it was only off by .1 degree. I have gotten only inconsistent reading when it is put on different spots on the head. The only downside is when baby is moving around, but that is going to be a problem with most thermometers anyway. This is not bad for the price.

This thermometer requires that you hold it in one spot on the temple for several seconds. Sounds easy, but it's actually very hard to get a reading from a cranky toddler. I was never able to get the same reading twice. I just replaced it with an Exergen temporal artery thermometer, which gives me a reading in the length of time it takes me to swipe the thermometer across half my son's forehead. So much easier!

It is one of the best little products out there. Very easy to easy. I bought one for my newborn in Sept 2005. My mother-in-law now bought one cause she saw mine and just fell in love with how easy it was to use.
Wish I had one sooner.

The instructions are clear, operation is easy, the thing does exactly what it's supposed to do, what more can you ask?
