5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome mug
I got this mug because I wanted to carry my coffee in my briefcase without it leaking while at the same time I wanted to be able to take a quick sip. I've had this mug for several years now, and it has worked perfectly. It keeps the coffee hot for a long time, it has never leaked, and it is simple to pop open the lid and take a quick sip.

1.0 out of 5 stars It leaks!!!!!
Every time I drink, this leaks from the neck of the bottle. I need to stand it straight up all the time when I carry the bottle since it leaks. I thought it happened only for unlucky guys but it's highly possible for you because recent reviews also claim the same problems. I'm really disappointed because it was expensive enough and I trusted THERMOS brand. I'll never...

A regular thermos is leak-proof and keeps the coffee hot for a long time, but to take a drink you have to unscrew two lids and pour out some coffee. I'd hate to try pouring on the bus or train during my morning commute! When considering this mug, I went around to various stores to see what was available, and this was the only one that so nicely combined the properties of a thermos with those of an easy-to-drink mug. Starbucks, for example, offered a mug that was probably almost leakproof, but I did not want to perform this experiment in my briefcase next to my lap top!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nissan Thermos, June 20, 2008
This review is from: Thermos Nissan 16-Ounce Stainless-Steel Backpack Bottle, Espresso (Kitchen)
This thermos keeps my coffee warm all day and doesn't leak! The only problem I have with it is that the lid is hard to clean well because of the way it is built. The area under the lid is almost impossible to get to, even with a brush and you can't put it in the dishwasher. Otherwise, it would get 5 stars but I can only give it 4 because of this.

1.0 out of 5 stars No luck for me!, August 11, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I purchased this thermos in hopes of being able to take my tea to class everyday, but I just couldn't get it to stop leaking from where the lid screws on. Determined, I returned it and got a replacement. Same problem. Guess it just wasn't meant to be. The heat holding capability of the actual thermos is amazing though, almost to the point of too good!

2.0 out of 5 stars Initially loved this thermos, but now not so much, January 20, 2011

I read the previous reviews before purchasing this thermos for my daughter and most people seemed pleased. Although there was some concern of this thermos leaking, I thought that was unlikely. Initially, my daughter LOVED the thermos, she said that is keeps her drinks hot all day and it was perfect for her; however, I now know I should have listened to the reviews because the thermos has started sporadically leaking. The first time it leaked, she was wearing a white top and the thermos leaked hot chocolate on the front of her. She thought that maybe she didn't tighten the top correctly. Since then, she has used it a few more times (being a bit more careful) and it still leaks randomly, not sure why. I would have given this item 5 stars in the beginning, but since I have to now buy a new thermos just a two months later, I can not give a good rating for durability or cost since it was too expensive to only last two months.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Mug... Wish it were easier to clean., April 20, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I really like this mug, compared to anything else I've had it is one of the only mugs I've ever used that is truly leakproof. Throw it in a bag, drop it on the ground, it doesn't matter. Nothing escapes out of this. The only other mug I've had that didn't leak was a mug from REI, but it was only 12 oz and had a lid that still required unscrewing. Not on this one. Full 16 oz capacity and just hit the spring loaded button to release the lid to drink.
The only downside to the mug is the lid is fairly hard to clean. There are a lot of "extra" surfaces that may collect grime over time. As it is for now, though, I'm extra careful to not leave dairy in there for any length of time and wash the mug carefully in the mean time.
Summary... Great mug which would be absolutely 5 stars if the lid were just a little easier to clean.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect travel mug, September 1, 2008
By

I purchased this Thermos because I was looking for something that would keep my coffee warm for a good length of time, and wouldn't leak when tossed around. The mug has overdelivered on both counts. I just wanted my coffee to still be warm after my commute (90 minutes). I find that my coffee is still HOT even after lunch. In fact, it insulates almost too well in that the coffee doesn't cool enough to drink for a very long time. But I just leave the cap off for about ten minutes after I pour the coffee and that seems to balance out the temperature. I have also carried this in backpacks, messenger bags, and briefcases, rarely right-side up. And I have never spilled a drop of coffee. I highly recommend this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing product---you will not believe how good it is!, July 5, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Thermos Nissan 16-Ounce Stainless-Steel Backpack Bottle, Espresso (Kitchen)
I needed a thermos that was compact enough not to add too much weight and bulk to my bookbag, and that would NOT leak all over my papers while it was in there. This thermos works like a charm! It carries the equivalent of a Starbuck's tall cup of coffee plus a little more, and never ever leaks. It's easy to flip open and drink from, because it has a push-button opening instead of a screw cap.

I did not expect it to insulate all that well. But boy, was I wrong! In fact, I do NOT recommend preheating the thermos with hot water before filling it with coffee---the thermos retains heat so well that your coffee will still be piping hot four hours after you fill it even if you don't preheat it. (The one time I preheated the bottle, it was so hot four hours later that I actually burned myself).

In a world of products that overpromise and underdeliver, the Nissan thermos is something wonderful: a product that quietly and modestly performs so well that it knocks the socks off of any of its competitors.

5.0 out of 5 stars okay, this is the real deal, June 30, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Thermos Nissan 16-Ounce Stainless-Steel Backpack Bottle, Espresso (Kitchen)
I have been looking for years for this bottle. It is truly leak proof, truly convenient, in that you can drink from it without unscrewing the cap and pouring it into a cup. Good size, though I wish they were still making the 350 ml one (I'm always looking for ways to shave ounces from my pack - biking is my only mode of transport). Retains heat as well as the best, absolutely. I find myself having to cool down my coffee before putting it in, because if it's too hot to sip when it goes in, you won't be able to drink it comfortably for hours. Buy this - you won't regret it. Oh, and I had read that the lid blocks your field of vision: not a problem, really.
