Product Description

Package Quantity: 1 | Color: Black

The Thermos brand is well known as the quality and performance leader in insulated food and beverage products. The Sipp line is our newest series of insulated beverage containers that mixes fashion with function. By using a Sipp product instead of a disposable cup, you can help the environment without compromising style.

Why Thermos?

An ideal choice for people on the go, the Sipp Vacuum Insulated Travel Tumbler is built to last and loaded with features to make for a more enjoyable drinking experience. Thermos vacuum insulation technology virtually eliminates temperature change within the beverage container by creating an airless space between two stainless steel walls. The result is an insulation layer that performs better than any other. A superior insulated container you can depend on to keep your beverages hotter, colder, fresher, longer. This travel tumbler keeps beverages hot for 5 hours or cold for 9, making it a great choice for long days out and about or in the office.

Features and Benefits

Constructed with double wall stainless steel, this 16 ounce travel tumbler is virtually unbreakable, yet its sleek design is both eye-catching and functional. It is also dishwasher safe for easy care and use.

For tea drinkers, a built-in tea hook is just the ticket to brew tea on the go. The tea hook can also accommodate most loose leaf infusers.

Leak-Proof and Worry-Free

The Sipp Travel Tumbler comes equipped with a leak-proof lid that operates with the push of a button. The lid is made of BPA-free Eastman Tritain copolymer which resists staining and provides durability. And because of the double wall insulation, the stainless steel body stays cool to the touch with hot beverages and condensation-free with cold beverages.

Recommended Tip for Maximum Beverage Enjoyment

In order to maximize the incredible insulation technology, it is recommended to either pre-chill or pre-heat the travel tumbler just prior to use. This can be accomplished by filling the tumbler with cold or hot tap water, attaching the lid and letting it rest for a few minutes. Before you are ready to use, simply empty the water and fill with your favorite beverage. Attaching the lid will further increase the thermal efficiency.

The Sipp Vacuum Insulated Travel Tumbler is made of BPA-free materials and is backed by a five-year limited warranty.

Highlights
  • Insulated: Keeps hot for 5 hours or cold for 9 hours with Thermos vacuum insulation technology
  • Durable: Unbreakable stainless steel interior and exterior
  • High Quality Materials: 100% BPA-free
  • Capacity: 16 ounce

I bought this tumbler for my girlfriend. When I got it home; I opened it and poured in water from the teakettle. Using a instant read food thermometer I checked the temp. I started at 206 deg, closed the lid and let it set. at 1 hour the temp was 193 deg. At 2 hours 182 deg; at 4 hours 164 deg; and at 6 hours temp was still 152 degrees. over a 6 hours period the temp only decreased 54 degrees. During my test I noticed that the outside of the cup did not feel at all warm to the touch; the only part that changed at all was the top and then only slightly warmer. I also tested the seal by turning the cup upside down for one of the hours with no leaks at all.

I do recommend that you don't put liquid that is too hot in it expecting it to cool down to drinking level on the way to work. you won't get anything to drink.

Sipp is the latest tumbler from Thermos & has several improvements over my Thermos Nissan 14-Oz Stainless-Steel Travel Tumbler. Although the Sipp is good, there are some small cons.

PROS:
1. Keeps drinks hot
Thermos Sipp keeps my coffee piping hot at the office (which is air conditioned) much longer then the Nissan tumbler. Drink is really hot after 4 - 5 hours even with button in open position. Drinks in the Thermos Nissan would be lukewarm by then. As other reviewers have said, be careful not to have drinks too hot or risk a scalded tongue.

2. Leak proof
New mechanism and seals makes the Sipp leak proof when button is in closed position. It will not leak when held upside down (great for traveling). Thermos Nissan has to be kept upright as it is not leak proof.

3. Holds more drink, Fits my car
I love the bigger capacity of 16oz. Slim design fits cup holder in my car.

4. Easy to clean
Mechanism is easy to take apart and clean. Unlike the Nissan lid which traps gunk in the corners and beneath the rubber rim.

CONS
1. Seals
Two soft seals in mechanism ensure no leaks. However I'm not sure how long these will last. Thermos has not replied to my enquiry about replacement seals. Tumbler will still be useable, but not leak proof without the soft seals.

2. Where to drink from
Two slit openings on the inside depressed section allow liquid out. Because there is no handle, there is no tactile reference point when the tumbler is picked up as to where to drink from. That may be why a reviewer had problems with spillage. I get around this by referencing the plastic label on the mug wall which I line up with the drink slit when putting the lid on.

So close to perfect. Coffee stays warm a freakishly long time. Sleek and sturdy. Fits beautifully in my slim car cup holder (which almost all others do not). Not five stars because of 2 things...I am lazy thus chose a mug that was dishwasher safe. This cup is, but the top has a total of 4 pieces which really needs to be dis-assembled with every wash (a pain if you are, like me, lazy). But the only real downer is that the top is not truly drinkable 360 degrees which means you really do have to pay attention to where you put your lips. There are 2 opposite spouts which release the coffee into a nice bowl/rim, but if you don't line up your lips to one of them, the liquid gathers a little momentum coming around the bowl and shoots to the side of your mouth...meaning I dribble. Would be nice if the white rim had either a big visual or palpable cue to show you where to latch on when you can't pay close attention (like driving a stick shift in rush hour).

I noticed that this was coming out when I was shopping for mugs a couple of months ago, so I kept checking back until it was released, and I'm glad I did. I had ended up with the Contigo mug before, which was OK, but I never really liked the styling. This mug is at least as good as the Contigo, and is able to be completely disassembled, so those that were worried about the build up in the mechanisms of the Contigo don't need to have that concern here.

Really the only downside of this mug is that to fit the disassembling seals, it is a couple inches taller than most mugs are, being only slightly shorter than an average 20 oz. bottle. The size doesn't bother me, and the sealing mechanism is good enough that even with the mug in the open position (you press down on the middle button, and it will snap in an open position) I'm still almost burning my tongue on my coffee 2 hours later.

Highly recommended!

This is by far the best insulated coffee mug I've found. I now have three of them for various reasons.

There are a few design problems, several of which have been pointed out by other reviews.

1) It's hard to see where the sip holes are, so you can spill liquid on yourself if you get that wrong.

Fix: see the image attached. I used a black paint pen to put dots where the sip holes are. Very durable, and easily reapplied if they eventually fade.
Another reviewer drilled holes, but although I like the permanence of that solution, it seems like it might be hard to clean.

2) If you rest the cup on any surface that is not level (such as an airline tray table) it can easily slip

Fix: see the image. I used a cutout from some self-adhesive speaker non-stick bottoms pads. It has about 2 mm of foam as well. This seems to work perfectly. I applied a thin film of epoxy to the bottom of the mug before applying the pad, since I've learned without this trick they will come off in about 6 months.

3) Even with the paint dots on the lid, it would be nice to have tactile feedback that you are going to have your mouth at the right place.

Fix: see the image; I cut out ellipses of indoor/outdoor velcro (hook side) and affixed one on each side of the mug. I put them so that once the mug lid is fully tight on the mug, the dots align with the ellipses. So this gives an extra bonus of providing a cue as to when the lid is on tight enough to prevent leaking. For new mugs, I slightly over tighten since the gaskets do relax a bit over time (maybe about 15 deg).

Now just by picking up the mug you have feedback as to where to drink out of the mug.

Finally, I believe the care instructions indicated not to put the metal part of the mug in the dishwasher. Regardless, I've found that doing so damages a smooth interior finish that makes cleaning the cup easier. I recommend only hand washing the metal component.
