I bought this grill and put it together in 2 hours. It was easy to follow the directions, all the parts were included and the manual was well written. I didn't have any trouble understanding what part goes where. The only tool I needed was a phillips screwdriver, and I used a hand drill with a phillips bit which made the assembly process very fast.

The grill is well built where it needs to be, but the side shelves don't feel as solid as I'm used to on my old grill. You need to pay attention to the size pan you use on the side burner, and the weight limit as well. I don't think a big kettle full of water and ears of corn will do very well on this burner. Maybe a 4 quart pan full of water, but nothing any bigger. This grill will work great for my family of 4.

The cooking surface is smooth and easy to clean. It is porcelain covered V-shaped steel, but I recommend buying a better cooking grate if you enjoy cooking hamburgers. There is a 1 inch gap between each V-shaped bar. When I cook hamburgers, the meat settles down into the V-shaped grate and it is simply not possible to get the hamburgers up out of the grate without tearing the burgers apart. Large pieces of meat are ok on this cooking grate. Small chicken breasts or thighs will settle down into the V-shaped grate. Again, I bought a better cooking grate and placed it on top of this grate.

The thermometer on the lid is handy and will be helpful when I bake sausage, potatoes, carrots with butter. No more guessing on the temperature. I also like the porcelain covered warmer shelf. It won't rust! I am buying a cover for it, and will keep it out of the elements that way.

There are 4 burners and it will be easy to use this grill as a smoker too.

I was given this grill 4 years ago (it's 2013) for mine and my wife's wedding shower. I should have put a cover on it, but never did, although I did keep it under an awning most of the time. I probably grill 2-3 times a week no matter what season it is. Sidenote: I never understand people who say "grilling season", that's all year for me, but I digress. In those four years I've cooked everything from corn to steak and even used the eye on the side to make hamburger helper when our power went out. About a year ago the middle burn covers starting rusting and falling apart and now they are almost completely gone. Really for a $200 grill that got used constantly for 4 years I would say that's not bad. The starter JUST went out about a month ago, which to me is amazing as that's usually the first thing to go and this grill rusted out first. Overall I think it's probably one of the best you can get and I'll be ordering it this weekend once my wife realizes it's the best deal.

The grill cooks fairly well and the heat is distributed quite evenly. It does suffer from huge flare ups as most gas grills do, especially when cooking chicken or burgers. Regardless of the what the instructional booklet says, keep some water mixed with baking soda close by to quickly kill the flames before it burns your meat. On the bad side, the grill components that provide the heat (grill burners), and the pyramid shaped grease covers that protect the tubes which distribute the propane and flames from grease drippings, all rust quickly. I purchased my grill in October or 2013 and the above mentioned parts were rusting by December of 2013. This occurs even when following the manual's directions of properly maintaining and cleaning the grill to the letter and even when using a top of the line, water proof grill cover to shield your grill from the elements and weather conditions. Basically, Thermos (which is just another part of Charbroil), tends to make the replaceable parts out of cheap metals just so you and I have to spend money to replace them. The grill would be much better quality if they made those parts out of stainless steel instead. Also, whenever purchasing a gas grill, if it can be avoided, never purchase one where the inside ceiling or sides of the grill are painted with that smooth black paint that seems to look so nice. This is because, whatever these companies are using to paint the inner surface black with begins to peel much like paint peels off any other painted metals. I bought this grill because the inside ceiling was not painted black and was the same shiny metal that is on the outside of the grill. However, I neglected to notice that inside the grill, on the left and right sides, had that painted black paint that I was trying to avoid.Read more ›

I have had this grill for several months now and it is a very nice grill. The only thing that I am concerned about is how long the grates you cook on will last. They are very light and don't seem very durable, but they are very replaceable. Super grill for the price.

This seems to be the current model for the previous Char Broil MODEL 463440109. If so, buyer beware. The bottom metal cover of the 463440109 firebox area may have been made of a defective or low quality metal that, if similar to the 463440109 could rusts out within one year of normal use. Once the bottom rusts out, the undercarriage of the grill is exposed and grease and fire could have little or no separation from gas tank stored below it. Char Broil offered a replacement part for $66 so if it is the same metal cover you should factor in the potential for replacing it as part of the total cost of ownership.

All other metal (non-firebox) shows no signs of rust so I would assume they used a different metal cover in this one part that renders the grill a potential fire hazard.
