First, I put in ice cubes and water and left it overnight to see how well it's insulated. Most of the ice was still there in the morning. I left it in for two more days and at the end of that time, there was still a little ice. That's pretty good as far as I'm concerned. It may not be insulated as well as some vacuum bottles, but it worked well enough to please me.
Next, I tested the seal several times to see if it leaked. I open and closed the bottle and turned it upside down and shook. No leaks, but I can see where the silicone o-ring may wear and begin leaking later. I called the warranty number in the box and told them I needed another seal, and they are sending me another cap altogether. I'll keep this in a kitchen drawer until the one I have starts to leak and then swap them. It seemed that Thermos warranty cs was responsive to the leak issue. They didn't ask for proof or receipt, just my name and address to send the part to. I think this thermos is an attractive design and I like the large mouth opening. With the extra stopper, I think it will provide lots of good use. Hope this helps someone.
BTW - this thing on Amazon is almost 40 bucks...go to Walmart and you'll get it for more than half off!
Thermos® brand offers a 42oz handle/strap equipped, aluminum housed, non vacuum, non glass-lined model with a secondary handless cup (think china bowl style) stowed in the lid/cup of the apparatus. The secondary cup, I have promised a co-worker that I would allow to use for a shared cup of hot beverage... but still has yet to occur. So its function as an actual fluid holder is not included in this review.
I have purchased and (at the time of this review) have used mine daily for 7 months. I can't express my enthusiasm for this product in words alone....as while thinking of the Thermocafê's features I hum a continuous rhythm and melody.
In my nightly toils, this unit has been used only for hot water to be mixed with dried coffee in order to enjoy a "hot cup of joe". But since using, i have discovered the hot water inside to have an infinite number of uses.... food items include -tea, hot-cereals, instant pastas and more. The number of industrial uses for the hot liquid is even more staggering and I will leave the discovery of outstanding hot water utilities to the one smart enough to purchase and own a Themocafé.
Handle = Pretty lame, have never used... handle is kept speed-taped to the reservoir.
Strap and fasteners = Even more lame... perhaps the strap is for "hang drying"? (in which case it is easily installed and removed)
Lid/cup = Works awesome as a cup.....it holds fluid and doesn't tip.
-The lid/cup however, is reliant on only the smallest build of a raised plastic nub that serves as a rotational limit/back-twist preventer.Read more ›
The best feature is a cork like stopper and also a wide mouth closure that can be opened for cleaning and thicker fillings.
Heat retention was my #1 need since it's exposed to sub-zero wind chills and on ice for 10-12 hrs straight. I take soup and need it HOT for emergencies if someone falls in. So I did an experiment with this thermos... pre-heated, re-filled it with boiling water, and put it in my fridge. Results below.
-After 7hrs22mins: Temp 201 F - hot enough to burn your tongue
-After 18hrs55mins: Temp 141 F - OK for HOT coffee, not soup.
(refrigerator temp = 37-40 deg F)
Needless to say I was impressed! On actual trips it's kept things HOT the full 12 hrs. I think the key is pre-heating it and I actually pre-heat twice- once with boiling water overnight and then again with fresh boiling water for 10 minutes before actually filling it.
As mentioned haven't noticed any leaks but I haven't encouraged them either... I fill it all the way but not overfilled. Filling completely is important because if there is extra space the liquid can get shaken and create pressurized steam in the extra space which will blow through the seals. Also I don't over-tighten the lids.

Not a good product in my experience. I only used mine a couple of times, and the last time I used it I put hot chocolate in it, but it ended up spilling everywhere because the lid... Read morePublished 6 months ago by kb21
This thermos model has some major issues with the screw top cup. Its hard to line it up and screw for a tight seal. Also hard to open after you get it on tight. Read morePublished 11 months ago by sfDesigner
Horrible! Bought it and was using it for warm water to warm bottles on the road and I have had it "explode" on me 7 times and leak on me and in the car or stroller 5 times. Read morePublished 13 months ago by JULIEPS23
