4.0 out of 5 stars Good for the price, April 22, 2010
This review is from: Thermos Grill, THERMOS 26.5 BTU GRILL (Misc.)
I bought this grill on sale from Target for $89 nearly two summers ago; this summer will be the third summer it will be used. I really like this grill. When I purchased this grill, my wife and I just moved to our first home, and we did not want to spend a lot of money on a grill after agreeing to be in debt for the next 30 years. This grill and I noticed that it was made by Charbroil, a company with a history of making good entry level grills.

To be sure this grill won't last forever; it won't have the longevity of a Weber, Broil King, Ducane or some of the other high priced grills. That being said, I have used this grill for two summers, this summer will be the third, and it has worked extremely well of us. As this is a entry level grill there is some annual maintenance that will be needed. Last summer (summer #2) I had to replace the "heat tent" (their term)or the heat plate (normal term). This summer I had to replace the burner, the heat plate, and the grate. Most of this maintenance can be attributed to the fact that I did not clean the grill before putting it away for the winter; I didn't even take out the lava rocks. It can also be attributed to what I grill and how much I grill. When it finally thaws around here, I tend to grill about 4 nights a week. When I do grill, I do a lot of basting, glazing, and other messy stuff. All of the mess drips on the heat plate and other elements that have needed to be replaced.

Maintenance aside, this grill does a great job. It gets blazing hot and sears the food wonderfully. I did add lava rocks, only to help soak up some of the drips while I am cooking. For $89 or even $99 it's a great purchase. I wouldn't spend too much more though. There are better grills for the $119 price on Amazon. If you need a cheap, good grill and have $100 to spend, this is a good buy.
