4.0 out of 5 stars Replacement Lids
My wife and I have had a pair of the JMF-500 mugs for several years and like many others the sipper lids eventually began dribbling. Last weekend I became fed-up with the dribbling and went online to find a customer service number for Thermos Nissan (1-800-831-0745). I ordered two replacement sipper lids for $8.00 shipped and this weekend I'm sitting here sipping from...

5.0 out of 5 stars Lasted longer than my marriage, June 26, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Thermos Nissan 15.9-Ounce Travel Mug/Food Storage Jar (Kitchen)
Noticed this mug while searching online for a French press/travel mug. My wife (soon to be ex-wife) and I bought a pair of these about 14 years ago. Used almost every day, they have performed flawlessly. This is a true vacuumed sealed unit and keeps coffee hot and drinkable about 4 hours with the drinking lid, longer if you use the full cover lid. Mine has been dropped numerous times over the years and has survived well.

In all this time, there are only two drawbacks I can think of. It's diameter, although very stable, it won't fit cup holders in many vehicles. And, if run through the dishwasher, a small amount water will sneak through the little hole in the bottom cover. Not a big deal, but it can dribble out on you while dinking (it can be removed to dry off).

Unlike my wife, this travel mug has remained true to me all these years.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Thermos, with one thing to watch out for, December 1, 2001
By
This review is from: Thermos Nissan 15.9-Ounce Travel Mug/Food Storage Jar (Kitchen)
This really keeps hot things hot, cold things cold, just like it ought to. I have a 45 minute walk to work every morning, I fill this with hot tea before I set out, and the tea is still hot by the time I finish the mug full, about 30 minutes later, even on mornings when the air tempature is in the low 30s (F). The only thing to watch out for is the sipper lid is very, very easy to mis-thread. It seems to go on fine, but it isn't a tight seal, whereupon it becomes a dandy dribble cup, which drips not on your chin where you would notice it, but farther down. One cold morning I suddenly realized the cup had soaked my right pants leg. Funny to read about, I know, but embaressing at that particular moment.

5.0 out of 5 stars can't leave well enough alone, August 29, 2005
This review is from: Thermos Nissan 15.9-Ounce Travel Mug/Food Storage Jar (Kitchen)
I can't leave well enough alone so I cut the handle off my mug, cleaned up the edge, machined a steel caribiner flat and silver soldered it on. I also covered it with safety orange reflective tape and I can always find my mug. No one else would want it. It's been great for almost 10 years now.

As for the problem of the drinking lid becoming a dribble cup, I took the o-ring out of the lid and noticed one side is flat and the other is curved. The curved side is normally out but I found that if I flipped it over so the flat side is out it quit leaking.

I suppose this mug may be defective and will seek a replacement or refund.

After getting fed up with cheap travel mugs (leaky tops, limited ability to keep coffee hot), I splurged on the Nissan mug several years ago. Hundreds and hundreds of commutes later, I can't say enough good things about it. The only days I'm disappointed are the ones I forget my Nissan mug at work and need to make due with a lesser mug. It is true that the base does not fit in most car drink-holders; not a problem for me, but could be a deal-breaker for some. Also, I don't use the sipper lid, so I can't speak for that. But if you're looking for a rugged, leak-proof container to transport your 15.9 oz of java and keep it hot for hours, you won't do much better than this item.

4.0 out of 5 stars great cup but watch out for the leaks, April 16, 2004

I drive truck for a living and was always buying coffee in a paper cup. I found I always got heartburn as I had to drink it so fast to enjoy it hot. Then I found this mug. It keeps it warm up to 6 hours. Great... no more heartburn. I ended up buying one for my wife, and my boss bought one for himself and his wife. The only problem is, that as the cup gets older, the seal starts to leak. My first cup is in the cupboard it leaks so bad and I now use my wife's cup. Lately it has started to leak also. I wish you could buy replacement seals.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot, stable, and big, March 7, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Thermos Nissan 15.9-Ounce Travel Mug/Food Storage Jar (Kitchen)
I am shopping for a new travel mug as I just left this 7+ year old mug at my kids school and I can't wait for it to turn up somewhere. This mug is absolutely the best. 7 years and no drips, unless the gasket is not seated correctly. I just wish I could have an even bigger mug so I can take more coffee with me in the morning. I'm looking at the bigger Thermos, but I loved this one so much, my decision is a tough one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Worked great for six years!, January 16, 2004

Unfortunately, I've had it seven. For the past year it's been dribbling into my lap. I wish I could fix it, cause I really liked this mug 'til it started leakin'. It fits the large cupholder in my truck, it's fairly splashproof, and I can even put on the solid lid and carry it in my motorcycle saddlebag. Sip-lid leakage seems to be a common problem, so I'll probably shop for an alternative.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best mug ever, September 16, 2006
This review is from: Thermos Nissan 15.9-Ounce Travel Mug/Food Storage Jar (Kitchen)
AARRRGH! I lost my Nissin mug after thirteen years of perfect service. Dents and dings new O-ring and all, it's gone. I wish I had a picture of it to show the abuse that it withstood, and it kept coffee warm for hours. Now I have to get a new one. For those of us that like things to serve their purpose and don't care about fancy flashy lights and gizmos, this is the best mug ever.
