5.0 out of 5 stars Add boiling water for 5 minutes to hold heat!
The ONLY time I haven't had the heat held by this thermos is when I do not preheat it with water as suggested by the maker. I own three of these. I started with one, then found it to be so superior to other types that I bought two more. They are worth every penny. They will hold the heat of the food better than any thermos I've tried, BUT ONLY IF YOU FIRST PREHEAT IT...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not very hot at all...
If I put HOT soup in at 8:30 AM... at 1 PM it is just BARELY warm... I'm really surprised at the poor insulation of this product. I was under the impression that Nissan was a quality brand - and for $... for a little thermos, you'd expect your soup to stay hot for at least 4 hours or so! I'm sure it does a great job at keeping things cold - that's not exactly difficult.

5.0 out of 5 stars Add boiling water for 5 minutes to hold heat!, March 19, 2003

The ONLY time I haven't had the heat held by this thermos is when I do not preheat it with water as suggested by the maker. I own three of these. I started with one, then found it to be so superior to other types that I bought two more. They are worth every penny. They will hold the heat of the food better than any thermos I've tried, BUT ONLY IF YOU FIRST PREHEAT IT WITH BOILING WATER AND CAP IT FOR AT LEAST 5 MINUTES! This will warm the thermos and allow it to maintain the temperature of the hot food for several hours. I pour out the water just before I fill the thermos. It can get so hot, in fact, that if I pack a lunch at 7 am using this method soup can be too hot to eat. I usually fill it with soup, but I've also tried left over Chinese food and spaghetti. It stays hotter with soup, and very warm with the other dryer foods.

This is a durable stainless steel thermos - no glass. It is expensive, but it works so much better than other styles. It is a convenient size. The lid seal comes off for convenient cleaning. The wide mouth is easy for spoon navigation.

If you do not preheat it with boiling water (I microwave the water in a cup) then it holds heat better than any plastic one, but it will not stay as hot. Remember, the plastic ones don't either. I've tried preheating plastic thermos' and they don't seem to ever hold the heat till noon no matter what.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keep it Hot !, August 16, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Thermos Nissan 9-1/2-Ounce Stainless-Steel Wide Mouth Snack Jar (Kitchen)
This is a great product which keeps the hot food hot and the cold food cold. My daughter uses hers almost everyday and never complains that her food is not right. She, in fact, is the one who wanted the Nissan because the other kids who had them liked them so much.

5.0 out of 5 stars Prewarm the jar, March 24, 2003
This review is from: Thermos Nissan 9-1/2-Ounce Stainless-Steel Wide Mouth Snack Jar (Kitchen)
I have used 2 of these containers for the last year, and they have worked well. Things are kept plenty hot for atlesast 4hrs..(This is when my kids have lunch.) I am not sure if the poor reviews of this product reflect the users not following directions given in the owner's manual. You must heat the container before use by filling it with hot water. I think this is true for most containers of this type.

I am very happy with the thermos. Now my kids will be able to eat hot lunch from now on. I spent too much money on other brands that would just keep the food cold no matter how much I followed instructions on the product. I followed the same instructions with this nissan product and the results are hot lunches for my kids. It is easy to use and very compact that it fits perfectly in any lunchbox. I highly recommend this product.

I have several Nissan Products and they all outperform any of the others I have tried in the past. This product is awesome for 4 Hours or so if...
#1 Read and follow directions on preheating. (5 minutes with boiling water well capped)
#2 Use common sense, If you are in cold weather place this on or in a thin cloth until ready to use. If you set it on a cold surface that is solid for hours, you are leeching cold into the container since it is solid.
#3 Sounds dumb I know but I have a friend who was doing this.
When your food is ready to put in, immediatley pour out the boiling water and replace with your thoroughly heated food, then immediatley cap. (A few minutes can mean all the world)

5.0 out of 5 stars The best small food thermos on the market, March 15, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Thermos Nissan 9-1/2-Ounce Stainless-Steel Wide Mouth Snack Jar (Kitchen)
We have two of these Nissan Thermos 9.5 ounce containers. They have been going to school with my child daily for the past 2 1/2 years. When you pre-heat them properly with boiling water for 5 minutes, this container keeps noodles HOT for at least 4 hours. Ours are dented and scuffed and generally abused, but they still function perfectly!

Don't pay any attention to the obviously disgruntled person that left all three 1 star reviews--seems they don't know how to read the 2 line directions that came with the container!

I have several Nissan products which I find of very high quality. So I made no qualms about this little jar. Follow the directions and you have a suitable lunch at noon. Not too hot, adequately warm. Small enough to keep in one's backpack or computer bag. No complaints.
