Don't worry about making your coffee at 6:00 in the morning and not being able to take your first enjoyable sip at your desk until 8:00 am - this mug will have kept it hot enough to still involve you in a lawsuit if it spilled on someone ;-)

3.0 out of 5 stars Leaks and IS breakable
The mug is a great, wide bottom, mug with an easy to hold handle. It keep coffee hot a good three hours or more, better than any I've ever used.... and I've used a lot BUT; after a while it starts to leak, you have to play with putting the top on just right to get it to work. I've stained more shirts because of the faulty seal. And it advertises as being unbreakable...

Don't worry about making your coffee at 6:00 in the morning and not being able to take your first enjoyable sip at your desk until 8:00 am - this mug will have kept it hot enough to still involve you in a lawsuit if it spilled on someone ;-)

On Sunday mornings, there's enough coffee in this baby to get me through Sunday School (without having to drink the perk muck from the church coffee maker). And if for some reason I can't drink it all then, I can set it outside the main service and still have warm (very warm) coffee to drink on the drive home.

This mug has enough room to hold a 20 oz soda with two ice cubes. It will keep a soda cold for hours!

Get over the cost and buy one for both yourself and your wife. And do like me, buy one for your mother and father for their birthdays.

This mug does not fit in car drink holders, but it does a GREAT job of holding its place on the dash. I drive a 5-speed in DC rush hour and haven't lost this mug from the dash yet.

God Bless

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for the Professional Coffee Drinker, July 22, 2001

If you are the type of person that gets a cup of coffee as soon as you you get to the office... then this is the mug for you. Coffee stays hot for hours, great for those who like to sip coffee all moring. Large capacity... no need to run back and forth to the coffee maker. Cleaning is easy! Very professional and hi-tech appearance! The wide bottom keeps the mug from tipping over, especially handy if you work with important documents around. I enjoy having a hot cup of coffee in the morning at work. I can fill the mug at 8am, leave it at my desk and go to a meeting, and come back to my desk with the coffee still hot. Wonderful Mug!... now if I could just do something about the quality of coffee in the office... hmmmm. (smile)

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not the best, June 19, 2001

After reviewing the other reviews and seeing the price, I expected this to be the greatest mug of all time. While it is a good mug, (that's why it got 4 out 5) I am not so sure if it is the worth the steep price.

I'll start with the good points: Large capacity is good. It is very easy to clean, and you can take apart the stopper to wash it all out. It does keep a "full" (see complaints) mug of coffee hot for about two and a half hours, which is pretty good. The shape is very easy to handle for a big mug. Plus Thermos will replace it for five years. Last is that It just looks cool.

I do have a few complaints. First off is that if you don't fill it up all the way it doesn't keep the drink very hot or cold for very long. 20 oz of coffee is a lot to drink or throw out. The only other complaint I have found is that it tends to trap water where the plastic meets the metal. So you have to be careful after you wash it and use it again. Coffee water will drip out a bit.

After 2 months of using this mug, I love it more every day. I make one huge cup of coffee with instant crystals in the preheated mug, and two hours later it is still hot enough to please me, and I like HOT not warm coffee.

Tops!

4.0 out of 5 stars For Java Nuts! (4.5 Stars), March 26, 2002

Without question this is the best travel mug I have ever owned. And believe me, I've owned many!

Forget other mugs], go with the Nissan Ultimate. For starters, this mug really does keep coffee hot for a long long time. I drive 40 minutes to work in sub-freezing temperatures in a car with a less than adequate heater, and my coffee is still drinkable for at least another 1.5 hours AFTER arriving to work. Once at work, if I start with a fresh cup it will stay at a hotly drinkable for over three hours. Can you think of another mug that can do that?

Have you ever used a stainless steel mug that gets hot to the touch? Every one I've ever owned has been like that, until now. For once, the vacuum seal between layers seems to have been done right, and the outside never gets hot. Just in case it does, the rubberized super-comfy handle will keep you from burning your fingers, while keeping a klutz like me from dropping the darn thing too.

I like the way the top screws on tightly without causing carpal tunnel, and I also like the clever design which allows you to take the top apart without breaking to clean (especially vital for those of you who sully your coffee with cream or sugar).

Another nice feature? The rubberized non-slip base that fully wraps the bottom and partway up the sides of the mug, rather than being a little piece of rubber glued haphazardly to it, as on other lesser mugs. Don't forget a 5 year warranty AND simple instructions that help you get the most out of your mug. Follow those and you won't complain that your mug doesn't keep liquids hot or cold enough for long enough.

After such a glowing review, why then only 4 stars rather than 5? Well ... this mug IS an ugly beast and won't fit in any automobile cup holder I have ever seen. It is tapered toward the top to lower the center of gravity, but the cup can still be a bit tippy in traffic. Minor gripes really, and only worth losing a half a star, but Amazon won't allow such specificity.

SO ...

FOUR AND A HALF STARS ... Great mug ... Worth the Price!

I bought this mug several months ago and like it a lot. It's just not a good commuter mug. I have a medium sized import car, and there just isn't a FLAT space large enough for the mug to sit. If it gets put on the passenger seat as it did this morning, it could very well tip over and spill the contents all over the place. Yep. It's far from tip-proof and when it does tip, the lid leaks like a sieve. Apart from this , the insulation does a wonderful job (I preheat for a few minutes with some hot water before the coffee goes in) and the mug seems well built. I just wish the bottom was weighted!

4.0 out of 5 stars great uber-mug, with one notable caveat..., September 11, 2002
This review is from: Thermos Nissan Ultimate 20-Ounce Stainless-Steel Desktop Mug (Kitchen)
My friends knew this was the mug for me- huge, kinda industrial-looking, and hard to tip over. I agree with what the other reviewers say- great capacity, keeps things hot long, and cold longer, and pretty stable (though I put it on the floor of the car and brace it with other things when driving).

My *big* problem is the top- yes, it screws on easily, and I would run it through the dishwasher without fear. But it breaks awfully easily! I've dropped it to floor or pavement maybe three times- twice, the top has broken. Big chunks from the drinking rim, and a crack from top to bottom that leaks freely. After the second one broke ..., I've given up on it as a travel mug and just use it at home or carry it empty to the office. I would really like use it for travel, but can't afford to buy a new top every 10 months.I still have to drink carefully if I leave the top on, so I don't wear the mug's contents.

If you can keep from dropping this on anything hard, I'd say yes! get it, but if your commute involves parking lots and sidewalks, and you are juggling computer bags and other things, be very careful or buy a couple of spare tops for the inevitable...

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the price? Darn straight!, May 7, 2002
This review is from: Thermos Nissan Ultimate 20-Ounce Stainless-Steel Desktop Mug (Kitchen)
I had the smaller 14 oz Nissan stainless Thermos mug, but it didn't have the liquid capacity to get the job done with drip coffee. I needed more liquid sunshine to get me going on the drive to work. So, I gave this one a shot.

First of all, these Nissan Thermos mugs are incredibly good at keeping coffee HOT, and for a long period of time. If you're not careful, you can easily burn your tongue 2 hours after you poured your coffee. IMO,that's a good thing.

Second of all, I really like how the top of the mug is engineered to prevent accidental spilling down the front of your shirt. You can easily close and open the top of the mug with your thumb, to prevent splashing while this monster is planted firmly on your dashboard. By the way, I've never had a problem with it remaining firmly planted on the dashboard.

Third, I really like the rubber grip on the body. Not everyone likes to use the mug handle, including me, and it's nice to have a non slip grip to grab on to. We're not always our most coordinated in the morning.

And, lastly, it's incredibly cool looking. I get frequent compliments on my monster mug.

I don't think you can go wrong here.

If good, hot coffee, is your passion buy this mug. It looks fantastic sitting on your desk. The cup is high tec all the way with a huge base that is impossible to tip over. I drink far to much coffee everyday and this mug helps me increase my already excessive consumpution. It will keep a fresh cup of coffee hot for over six hours. My original cup each morning never lasts that long. This mug is so beautiful that I took both it and a companion Nissan Sports bottle to a jewelry store and had my named engraved on both units. People will be tempted to steal these beautiful and functional works of high tech art.

I love this mug. It works especially well if you 'charge' it with hot water before putting in coffee or tea (or ice water, if you're drinking something cold). The top can be a little tricky at times; if it takes more than a half-turn to close it, you're probably going to dribble down your shirt. My only other complaint/warning is not to put liquid in that's _too_ hot. It seems to mess up the inside - almost like it has been scorched.
