I love this cup!,
By
This review is from: POLYCARBONATED COLD DRINK TUMBLER (Misc.)
This is very nearly the perfect cup, with excellent design, construction, and overall usability. It holds 16 ounces and stands about 8.5" tall with the lid on; the base is just under 3" across and fits into the cup holders of my current car.
The black rubberized areas add traction where needed: at the base for a non-slip effect, two patches near the midline as finger grips, and a rim around the upper edge of the removable threaded top for added torque when screwing it in or out. The top also has an anti-spill rubber gasket around the bottom of the threaded area. I actually got mine from Target, marked down onto a discount shelf because it was missing its straw. When it turned out that none of my usual straws would fit the cup, I emailed the manufacturer (Thermos/Nissan) to ask whether I could buy a replacement straw, and they sent me one for free-- absolutely great customer service there. The ~10" permanent straw is very sturdy, and can be easily cleaned by running a soapy pipe-cleaner through it when necessary. (If you prefer to use disposable straws, it's possible to get same-sized extra-long ones; I nicked a few of those from Starbucks before my permanent straw arrived.) So where does the cup fall short of perfection? I do have a few bitty nitpicks-- while the double-walled construction substantially reduces "sweating" outer condensation on a hot day, it doesn't completely eliminate it; because there isn't a gasket around the top's straw porthole, the cup isn't completely spillproof if it falls over (though when deliberately turned onto its side, it does take a second or two before a few drops start to seep out around the straw-- if it's accidentally knocked over and you catch it quickly, the spillage is fairly minimal). It's not recommended for hot beverages, but that's pretty standard boilerplate for straw-type cups to avoid liability from mouth scalds. I've been washing it by hand and haven't dropped it onto a hard concrete-type surface, so I can't comment on its durability wrt dishwashers or impact breakage. But overall, this is definitely my favorite cup for this hot-weather season. Unlike most other spill-resistant insulated cups, its transparent walls let me see the liquid level from the outside, which helps warn if there's still some leftover beverage that might be accidentally left to fester. I came to this Amazon listing because I'm thinking about buying more of them, and I'm definitely glad that I bought the one I have.
