I read the reviews and am probably as skectical as anyone. When I received my Thermos - I filled it with hot water and dumped it as a preheat. Then I filled it with 200 degree water. In two hours it was 190 degrees. After four hours it was 180 degrees and after six hours, it was 170 degrees. The matching mugs - filled at the same time. After six hours they were at 160 degrees. The lids are a little more complex to take apart than some suggested, but nothing a reasonable person who can read directions should have a problem with. The seals are as leakproof as suggested. and the dark blue is just beautiful. Taken in total, the thermo and the mugs are awesome. They aren't cheap, but still are an excellent value. They made a believer out of me.

I bring a quart of hot tea to work every day and have been a fan of Thermos bottles for 25 years. I had always used an insulated glass bottle, until I noticed that the newer bottles were more prone to breakage. I did some internet research and found the Stainless King. It is excellent at retaining heat, ensuring a very hot cup of tea throughout the workday. One weekend, when I emptied a half-filled bottle over 24 hours after filling it, the tea was still significantly hotter than hot tap water. I am looking forward to using this bottle for a LONG time. The only very minor drawback is that the metal handle does "rattle", making a metallic noise. I might consider one of the handle-less bottles for a future purchase, but I am sold on the insulated stainless steel.

Poor Cap/Cup Quality,
By Grumpy (Iowa, USA) - See all my reviews

I bought this Thermos in November of 2009 and after 4 months of daily use the stainless steel part of the cap has separated from the plastic part. I have taken really good care of this product, and it is quite clear that the glue used to join the two parts was just not up to the task.
A friend has an earlier model and the same thing happened to him. Granted this is from a very small sample size, but it appears as though this is a common problem with the Thermos brand insulated bottles. I would really like to hear from other customers to see if ours were isolated incidents, or if this is a common occurrence. After a mail to the Thermos helpdesk I was told the following: "The limited warranty only covers the stainless steel portion of the bottle. The warranty does not cover gaskets, stoppers, or cups as the parts can wear due to long periods of use, neglect, abuse or can be altered. We do have these parts available for a small fee." I guess the reply means that even though the bottle part of the Thermos is supposed to last 5 years, they want to make a buck from their customers by having them continually buy replacements for the really poor quality accessory parts. I agree with the other reviewers in that the product keeps coffee piping hot, but I will not recommend this product until Thermos addresses the quality issues with their cap/cup.

Amazingly well made thermos,

The insulation on this thing is great. I needed a bigger thermos for an outdoor concert to store hot chocolate. I wanted something that would hold the heat a long time as we had to travel quite a ways, three hours to the show and then 4 hours at the show. As usual, I preped the themos by boiling water, filling the thermos letting it sit a couple minutes then emptied the water out, then poured in the hot chocolate. It remained very hot through both the travel time and concert. But the truly remarkable part came later: Following the three hour ride home as we had not drunk all the chocolate, I just popped the entire thermos in the fridge as I was too tired to empty it and intended to reheat the remaining chocolate the next day. Went to work the next day, got home the next evening and got the themos out of the fridge and opened it to heat up the chocolate. I was completely amazed to see steam pour out of the thermos and discover the hot chocolate was STILL hot almost 24 hours since I had filled it and that time included 12 hours in the refrigerator. I was astonished.
I've also tried it with cold beverage and found the same excellent results. I recommend it highly.

I purchased this after our Stanley Thermos broke and wasn't keeping coffee hot anymore. This thing is great. Its lightweight compared to the Stanley, and my fiance loves it because it fits in his lunchbox (which is a medium-sized cooler, the type that you hit a button and the triangular top rotates to the side). He accidently left it in his cooler all night and when he woke up to make coffee the next morning, he poured it out and it was still hot! Everyone on his jobsite was asking where he got it, and now they may be getting the same one as well. We tried to find something that was made in USA but came up empty handed, even Stanleys are made in China now. I read that other people replaced their Stanley with this so I took a chance. We are very happy with it and I would suggest buying this over Stanley. We haven't had it that long yet, if for any reason it breaks or doesn't last I will post an updated review.

I bought this thermos because I had been using a traditional travel mug with sippable lid to drink coffee at work. Even with the travel mug, coffee became cool after 15-20 minutes. I work in an ER and can only takes drinks between patients or procedures, which may be every hour or so. I needed something which kept my preferred English tea hot all day (I work 10 hour shifts and fix the tea at home an hour before arriving to the ER). I was a bit skeptical that this thermos could really keep my tea hot all day. Well, to my pleasant surprise I fixed the tea at home at 6 a.m., took it to work, drank from it during the day and at 5 p.m. it was as hot as when I fixed it at 6 a.m. The larger size allows enough liquid for all day and the thermos really keeps it hot all day. Best deal of my Christmas shopping spree!

Great at keeping drinks hot but paint is peeling off of product,

The SK2010 is GREAT at keeping my drinks hot all day. Fantastic in that regard. However, I've only had the thermos for a couple months and the blue paint is peeling off of the bottom of the thermos. It is making quite a mess---blue flakes everywhere! It flakes off on my skin, my desk, my counter tops, in the sink, in my bag, etc. I've contacted Thermos to see about a replacement....we'll see what they say.

After 4 months of daily use, the cap's metal and plastic part separated. Granted it was heavy use and it did get dented, but Thermos doesn't sell spare parts and I don't know what I should do. I want to buy a different thermos but it seems wasteful to get rid of the old one just because of the cap.

I was looking for a good thermos and after searching around and reading review after review I came upon this one. I purchased it based on all the good reviews I read here, glad I did. This thermos keeps things hot all day. I've taken it to work at 7am and the coffee left over at 7pm was still hot. I like my coffee boiling hot and this seems to do the trick. Steel inside and out with a kind of bluish purple color. The handle rattles just how a thermos should, it is plastic however. The only reason I rated it 4 out of 5 was because of the attached lid/cup. The cup may be steel on the outside but it is plastic lined. If you drink out of the cup you'll get a plastic chemical taste. The only other complaint, if you ca call it that is the easy pour stopper. It makes a mess when you use it so I just take it out before I pour. I have an 8 cup peculator and it will hold almost a full pot. Cleans up easily by letting it sit in hot soapy water or maybe a little baking soda. Fill it with hot water an hour before you put your coffee or tea in and you are good to go!

Keeps liquid hot for 24 hours,

Last March I filled up my old thermos with coffee and and drove 90 minutes to Gettysburg PA. for a tournament. After setting up my stuff, I went to pour a cup of coffee. Even though I had pre-heated the thermos, the coffee was undrinkable. My teammates who were with me told me to trash the thermos and buy another one. So I went searching and found this one.
On Saturday, I went to another tourament in Manassas VA. Prior to leaving for the trip (4:30am), I pre-heated the new thermos and filled it with coffee. I also filled up one of the non-spill matching mugs for the drive. I got to the event with no problem but after drinking the coffee in the mug, I didn't feel like having a second cup. So the thermos full of coffee just sat in my car. I didn't get back home until late on Saturday night and I just took stuff in the house and crashed for the night. On Sunday, I got up again at 4am to head back to Manassas for day 2 of the tournament. While waiting for the coffee to brew, I poured out the coffee from Saturday. Since it was the first time I had used this thermos, I decided to tested the temperature of the old coffee with my fingers. The coffee was still hot enough to drink. Best thing I've bought in a long time. My only complaint is that the lid arrived slightly dented. |
