My husband is a telephone lineman in Alaska and works year round. This is the only thermos that has kept food piping hot 6-7 hours after preparing. I have tried to purchase more and have been unsuccessful. If you find a 16 oz thermos by Nissan buy it! you won't regret it.

Love this thermos - The kids can bring soup or left overs for lunch. No leaking and clean up easily - Also no danger of breaking. Although they seem expensive, they are worth it.

I use mine to bring healthier food to the office for lunch.

The pros: This is a well made product. It cleans up easily. It can hold up to 16 oz. of whatever you want to take along with you. It has not leaked since I've been using it.

The con: It does not keep food hot or cold for as long as I thought it would. I bring mine to the office with either a hot or cold lunch. I've tried pre-heating and pre-chilling it prior to loading it with either hot or cold food. It's is packed around 6:45 am. By 12 noon when I eat lunch, the hot food is only slightly warm, and the cold food is only slightly cool. So in a bit more than 5 hours, the food is only slightly warm or cool. In comparison, I have a 16 oz. stainless thermos that I use to take home brewed coffee to work, and the coffee is still very hot by noon.

I am not taking this thermos into any extreme environment so I expected better performance. I'm still using this product, but not as much as I would have liked due to the temperature control issue. Slightly warm or cool lunch is not terrible, but it is not too great.

They tell you not to do this, but I use it for dairy: it keeps milk cold for hours. You need to be more thorough about cleaning it because the spoiled milk will smell. Here's how. The grey rubber gasket built into the underside of the lid is U shaped. So first, with the lid upside down, drip some dish soap into the center of the U, and after spreading the U shaped gasket apart, run your finger around it twice, then do it again under warm water.

Next, you'll need two q tips. Ram a soapy Q tip in the gap between the outer portion of the lid and the grey rubber gasket, to get under the U, like this U/ where it attaches to the center of the underside of the lid, You really have to ram it in there, but you can do it. After a while, the Q tip will become mushy so you have to soap up the other end to finish the job. Toss that Q tip and soap up one end of the other one. With the soapy q tip, and the lid still upside down, ram the q tip straight down in the gap between the lid and the grey gasket until it connects with what is normally is the underside of the top of the lid. Now run it around the underside of the lid with downward pressure. Turn the Q tip over, ram the unsoapy other side down into it, and run it around under a faucet with running water.

And once in a great while, you can grab the U shaped gasket and just gently pull it out. There will be all sorts of nastiness behind it. Don't to it too often, or you'll likely tear the gasket, at which point, the whole container will need to be thrown away.

Seems like a lot of work, but it only takes about 30 seconds when you know what you are doing, and the thing keeps cold very well and is essentially indestructible. It will last for decades! Great product.

My shifts run 10 hours or longer. This little container is perfect for packing up smaller portions of food. Four of these fit right into my lunch box. I don't have the luxury of sitting down for an hour to enjoy a formal dining experience. In my profession, every chance I get I have to go to the trunk of the car and grab something to munch on. This allows me something hot & healthy every few hours. Some of you guys might want a bigger container to hold more food, because you get a 30 minute lunch break and have to make it count. But this still works. You can pack different food items into each one without having to worry about the sauces co-mingling and the flavor of one item overpowering the other. Perfect way to take left-overs from a Chinese restaurant. No more kung pao mixed with sweet & sour. I've even put cereal into one & milk into the other. They fit right into my car's cup holder & I've also used it as a coffee cup. Imagine being able to work a night shift with a hot cup of chicken soup or tomato bisque to keep you going instead of all that caffeine. Think of getting a few of these, and a tool box to put them in.

By lunch time, my soup is warm rather than hot. Next time I'll look for a container with a stainless steel top. The mouth is too narrow to comfortably eat soup with a normal spoon. I now pack an extra long spoon (like for ice tea).

I wish I had bought something better, but it is okay and looks like it will last for many years.

After jumping into the bento bandwagon, I realized that my Mr. Bento lunch kit doesn't really cut it if I want something soupy (the TINY soup bowl is not the best for a cold winter day, if you want a super hot soupy meal).

I received the Nissan Food jar as a birthday present (16 oz!). There are only two components: the body/jar and the top. That's it.

I was skeptical in believing it would work, but it does! I filled it with hot water around 9 pm and the next morning @ 8 am, the water inside was significantly warm but not quite hot (either way, my hand jumped from the temperature).

I love it I love it. Yes, use it for soupy/liquid items and it will stay HOT, compared to putting in pasta or something, then the liquid to heat retention ratio will reduce.

Love it so much, I will NOT share it!
