I wanted this to pack my husband soup or chili for lunch at his job. First though, I had to test it in a completely unscientific way to make sure it would suit.

The chamber will hold 24 ounces, like it says, which is 3 cups using a standard 8 ounce measuring cup. The lid under the screw on cup is plastic. The inside of the Thermos is steel. The lid screws on very securely and after tossing around it a bit filled with liquid, there was no leaking.

The mouth is a good size, if you hand wash it as recommended, a regular dish washing brush fits it just fine. Steel also cleans up nicely. I don't recommend soaking the whole Thermos, but you can fill it with soapy water to sit to get out stubborn food.

First test- Hot! I pre-rinsed it with hot water, then filled it with fresh coffee.
After 6 hours, the coffee was still steaming.
After 9 hours, still very hot.
After 16 hours, it was very warm.

So while the label says hot foods for 9 hours, that means it keeps things very hot for 9 hours. Most people won't need it to be hot that long, but it works out well if you miss lunch.

Cold-
For this, I decided on ice water.
After 6 hours, still icy
After 12 hours- still icy, some melt
After 20 hours- the ice is a solid block and it's melted about 25%. Still a lot of ice.

The label says 12 hours. It's definitely good for that.

So if you're looking for a basic insulated food jar, this is a great one, it keeps food or drinks hot or cold. It's the perfect size for lunch for my husband or for my daughter and I to share something. I plan to pick up a couple more.

Please see the pictures I've posted above.

I have had the 16 ounce version of this (Thermos Stainless King SK3000MBTRI4 Food Jar, Midnight Blue) for a year or so for my kids to take to school. It has worked very well so when I saw this, I thought it'd be perfect for me as it holds a bit more.

The kids like it because it looks good (not too childish), is durable and doesn't leak (they can mash it into their overfull backpacks), and performs well (usually used for soup, which it keeps hot). The downside is that the cap is too small to use as a cup or bowl, so they usually end up either drinking/eating straight from the bottle or us a bowl from the cafeteria.

Cleaning is a bit of a pain with any bottle, but this isn't so bad as the opening is wide. The insert recommends against the dishwasher but it doesn't forbid it as it says use the top rack if you use the dishwasher, so that is what we do. We don't use it every day and, so far, the 16 oz unit has lasted a school year (maybe once a week?).

Because it is metal you do need to preheat or precool the unit for good performance. For soup, we usually microwave a cup of water and put that in for a few minutes prior to putting in the soup. For colder items, some tap water and ice usually do the trick.

This particular unit works similarly. Being a bit deeper, it is a little harder to clean but the dishwasher does the job, as does a cleaning rag and a wooden spoon. I often make a protein smoothy (1/2 ice, half liquid, fruit, protein powder) in the blender in the morning and this keeps it thick and frozen until lunchtime (about 5 hours later). I also bring a cup because the cap isn't sufficient for drinking from and it being made in two parts, makes me want to be sure not to get food between the plastic and steel. The cap is perhaps the weakest part of the design.

Overall a great product, does what it says, and I don't know of one better.

I originally bought the 16 ounce food jar to use for work and loved it. When the 24 ounce was available, I snatched it up right away. So far I've only used it twice. It's too big for my lunch and everyday use. It's also too tall. It has the same footprint (diameter/circumference) as the 16 ounce jar. The 24 ounce jar is just taller.
When I bring soup to work in the 16 ounce jar, I can easily eat directly out of it. The shortness/squatness of the 16 ounce jar makes it more like a big soup mug. since this one is taller, it stores more stuff. But to get to the bottom, unless you're using a straw or a super long handled spoon, I have to pour out the contents into another container order to still eat lunch like a lady! None the less, this jar, just like my 16 ounce one, keeps food piping hot. When I pour boiling hot soup in at 7 AM, the soup is still hot at 4PM--even after sitting in a cold A/C cooled office.
The stainless steel inside is a great feature, too! So easy to clean and I don't have to worry about melting or releasing toxic chemicals when subjecting plastics to high temperatures. The inside of the cap is plastic however, but compared to the rest of the jar, the surface area is minimal. I try not to overfill it so that I minize food contact with the cap. Anyway, I highly recommend.

I'm a med student, I take lunch seriously. I have a routine and it works for me, it needs to work for me because I don't have time to mess around. I started off with the smaller 16 oz Thermos food jar and it served me well. I wanted to expand into something a little bigger for the more hearty, casserole type items and keep the smaller size for soup. This 24 oz size is perfect for anything similar to spaghetti and meatballs, restaurant leftovers, chicken and rice, eggs and vegetables, etc. Warm up whatever you have, throw it in this Thermos, and have a hot lunch while everyone hovers around asking you what smells so darned good. No more running out to find something within walking distance and having to settle for whatever unhealthy thing that may be and unnecessarily spending money. At night I pre-portion whatever I'm taking the next day into a container that I can heat up in, and pop it in the microwave in the morning before putting it in the Thermos. Voila.

I love this Thermos. The wide mouth is perfect for eating out of and not making a mess, it also helps to clean up thoroughly inside later on. It's almost indestructible and looks great - you can't beat stainless steel construction. IT DOES NOT LEAK- enough said about that. It actually does keep your food warm or cold for 9-12 hours. When I get it ready in the morning around 6 am, I put hot water in the Thermos, set the lid over it and come back in about 10 min, dump out the water, and put the warmed food inside till lunchtime. When I sit down to eat at noon, the food is piping hot - sometimes i even have to let it cool off before I can eat it.

You can use this Thermos exactly as advertised for a hot lunch, clean it by hand or in the dishwasher, drop it on the floor, and trust that it won't leak all over your car. My last few semesters in school would have been a lot more of a trial had I not been able to depend on having these products to deliver my lunch daily to keep me going for a full day at school. I love having something that does what it is supposed to do and does it well. I would buy this product ten times over, funny thing is it's such a great quality I probably won't ever have to replace it. I do heartily recommend this Thermos food jar as a quality product with many uses.

I have the smaller version of this food jar, so when I was offered a chance to get one I jumped on the larger size. It is a nice very dark blue color - perfect and professional for work or school. I use both to keep soups warm in winter, egg and tuna salad cold in the summer, and though not ideal, they are great for drinks in a pinch.

The way it works best is to first fill the thermos with hot water and let it sit for a few minutes. I then pour it out and add hot food. Mine has stayed toasty from 6-7 hours easy. It's great for anyone on the run who needs to eat and doesn't want to go out. This has helped me stick to my strict diet with enjoyable food I can make myself, and avoid fast food/processed crap entirely.

It's pricey, but for what it does well worth the money. The Zojirushi thermoses are also fantastic, and are really the only models I've found to be superior, but they are even more expensive.

Mine has gotten a bit scuffed from tossing in my bag and backpack, however I am a rough-and-tumble kinda gal. Probably best to keep it in a soft bag when traveling if you can.

One thing to note is that this model does NOT come with the spoon that it's smaller cousin does. So, the inside it just a screw top. This isn't an issue for me, but if you liked having a folding spoon handy, you'll have to remember to bring a separate one instead.

I ordered this thermos to replace a previous thermos of similar size because the base lost adhesion to the rest of the thermos and fell off causing it to loose heat as well as look like a piece of junk. The new thermos came and within a day the same thing happened, this time it was the stainless outer shell of the lid, which lost adhesion and came off leaving a bare plastic cap. I admit that this thermos works awesome at keeping food hot and is the perfect size for me but this flaw in quality is unacceptable.

I bought this Thermos for one purpose: cooking steel cut oatmeal. I love the stuff but hated standing over the stove for 20 minutes to cook it. Now I put the oatmeal, boiling water, salt and raisins in the Thermos in the evening before I retire and I have perfectly cooked oatmeal with plump raisins in the morning. I save over an hour per week in meal preparation time. As a bonus, I can take the oatmeal with me if I have to leave the house early in the morning.

Very disappointed in this expensive thermos. Used only 2 x and the inner cap came apart from the outer metal shell. Really?

I bought the 16 oz version and loved it so much that I also bought this 24 oz one. As long as you pour boiling water into the thermos to warm it up for a few minutes and then put boiling/well-steamed food into the jar, you food will stay warm. My son's food stays warm for 10 - 12 hours! Note, the microwave does not warm up food sufficiently to maintain its internal temperature for many hours so don't microwave your food and expect good heat retention in the jar. Unlike the 16 oz version, this one does NOT come with a built-in spoon. With its height, you need to use a tablespoon to reach the bottom of the jar without sticking your fingers into the jar.

The weakest link for this and the 16 oz jar is the silicon sealing ring. Since I need to remove it to wash after each use, it will likely break after a month or two. I first tried Amazon and other websites but I was unable to find this replacement part. So, I called Thermos and these sealing rings cost $1 a piece. This seems like a reasonable price until you calculate in the $3 shipping charge! At $4, the total replacement cost for these sealing rings seem ridiculously high! I do not understand why Thermos charges $3 to ship a light weight ring that can be shipped in a regular mail envelope for 45 cents. It would be far more reasonable to charge $1 for the ring and shipping. What is the incentive for any consumer to buy this product when the essential replacement part is so costly???
