4.0 out of 5 stars Just ordered......
I just ordered this. I had bought one about 10 years ago when they first came out. (And what a surprise at the price difference! LOL! They were $100 back then!) Anyhow, I LOVE it. It's still working fine, but it's a bit big and bulky and at this price I may as well get a new one!

1.0 out of 5 stars Nurse says go with a Temporal Artery Thermometer
Don't bother with these. I am a school nurse, and not just this brand, but MOST brands of ear thermometers are inconsistent, especially when the average person does incorrect positioning in the ear canal. I had to use the ear type for 8 years between Pediatric ICU and school nursing. I got pretty good at getting consistent readings, except on very small ear canals, and...

I just ordered this. I had bought one about 10 years ago when they first came out. (And what a surprise at the price difference! LOL! They were $100 back then!) Anyhow, I LOVE it. It's still working fine, but it's a bit big and bulky and at this price I may as well get a new one!

The thing I want to address is that a lot of people are talking about wrong readings. Well, it has a LOT to do with the ear canal more than the thermometer. My husband and daughter have very narrow canals and the thermometer does not work on them no matter HOW it, or the ear, are positioned. On myself and my two sons, it works just fine. The thermometer has to have a clear opening to fit in right, and to feel the heat of the fever accurately.

I would highly recommend this ear thermometer to any parent to be or anyone who has a little one. This thing takes a temp so fast and it's easy to use...just push a button!!

That's a lot better than sticking a thermometer up the bottom end when your little one isn't feeling good!!

I have two boys age 2 and 4 and have gotten A LOT of use out of ours over the past 4 years. Very reliable, useful and durable. It is great to be able to get the same reading as a rectal (the only reading doctors ask for) without the hassle of actually taking it rectally. Or trying to keep track of what different readings mean depending on how you took them (underarm, oral, rectal). As for the folks who have a problem getting an accurate reading -- 1) you just need to make sure you get it in the ear correctly (not difficult) and 2) I take the highest of three readings (which takes seconds). I mean, as a mom and not a doctor, I just need to know if its 101,2 or 3 and whether its going up or going down. (I have never seen a thermometer that would give the exact same reading to the decimal point three times in a row.)

4.0 out of 5 stars Works great if you read the directions, November 3, 2003
By A Customer

I've been using the Braun Ear Thermometer for about 2 years. It works great if you read the directions on how to pull the ear to get a straight shot down the ear canal. It is far, far better than trying to hold a screaming child still for the 3 minutes that a regular thermometer takes.

You are not supposed to use it on an ear that the child has been laying on, but other than that my pediatrition says that it doesn't read high. I usually take 2 or 3 readings and trust the highest one. You just have to pay attention to see when it has wax on the cover so you can change the cover. I can usually tell because it starts reading really low. I've found the covers at the local pharmacy.

I had to use the ear type for 8 years between Pediatric ICU and school nursing. I got pretty good at getting consistent readings, except on very small ear canals, and those with a lot of wax. We got rid of ours and went with an Exergen TemporalScanner Temporal Artery Thermometer. It takes less time, doesn't require probes, and you can get one at Costco for $30.

I absolutely love my Thermoscan thermometer. Before I sarted using it my daugher would start crying when she saw me coming with the old thermometer because we always had to do it rectally. With the Thermoscan she wants me to use it even when she's not sick.

4.0 out of 5 stars Look under Kitchen and Housewares to find replacement lens!!, February 17, 2004

I have had my Braun for about 4 years. I really like it. It is so easy to use. I am having another baby in May and I couldn't do without it. I have had a hard time finding replacement lens filters for it. I did find them on Amazon. You have to look under the kitchen and houseware department in the personal care section under Braun. It would be easier if Amazon would list it with the baby stuff since that is where we find the thermoscan in the first place. I thought I would never find them.

I really love this product! It is so easy to use and very accurate and extremely kid friendly. I have 5 kids ages 3- 19 years old and they all love to use it. No more middle of the night fumbling with the other kind. If you are a parent, you want this thermometer. And the price is wonderful too.

5.0 out of 5 stars We really like this thermometer!!, February 12, 2006
This review is from: Thermoscan 1-second Read Thermometr , 1-second Read-out (Electronics)
We really like this thermometer. I know that people say that it's inaccurate, but our pediatrician recommends this thermometer and says that you have to take the temperature a few times and look at the average reading. It's really fast and very easy to see the reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reliable, June 29, 2004

This review is from: Thermoscan 1-second Read Thermometr , 1-second Read-out (Electronics)
I've had three children and have used this ear thermometer since my son was born almost 9 years ago. Now, I have a newborn and this thermometer is what I plan on using with him as well. It has always given me an accurate reading with my first two children. I never rely on the first reading, so I always give it one more try and it always comes out the same as the first. I've read in these reviews of people having problems with their thermometers, but I've never had a problem. It's simple and easy to use and to take along everywhere with you (just in case). I like this ear thermometer and I plan on using it for years to come with my children as they get older!
