Editorial Reviews

At last, the definitive Halloween compilation! This is a truly satisfying compilation which bears all the familiar Ace hallmarks of a fine track selection, attention to detail and irresistible artwork rolled into one potent package. Double whammy visuals combining eye-catching cover art and a booklet with ghoulish internals designed to complement the sounds. Nearly half of the content new to CD including several never-before-released Bobby 'Boris' Pickett radio station plugs from 1962 that provide a neat framing effect. Annotated by Rob Finnis. 28 tracks. Ace.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vintage Halloween, October 3, 2006

Fantastic fun collection of some old classic light-hearted horror songs. All the songs are from the late 1950s and early 1960s. Despite their age they sound very crisp and clear as if they were recorded yesterday. The "Munsters Theme" version on this cd sounds the closest to the original than any other version that I've heard. This cd has 25 catchy songs, making this a perfect disk to hear in the background during any party or gathering during October. The inside jacket is also packed with 19 pages worth of information on the different bands as well as pictures of all kinds of horror genre material; stills taken from movies, movie posters, a cover of a Munsters comic book ect. You will get your moneys worth with this cd. Also check out Monster Bop & Horror Hop.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of 4 great Halloween vintage rock and roll compilations, October 7, 2009

This review is from: These Ghoulish Things: Horror Hits for Halloween (Audio CD)
The truly great collections of Halloween rock and roll (with minimal overlap) are Monster Rock 'n Roll, These Ghoulish Things, Monster Bop, and it's sequel, Horror Hop. The other collections don't come close.

These Ghoulish Things is fabulous and is currently in print, but overall, I give a slight edge to Monster Rock 'n Roll (if forced to pick only one) due to the hilarious commercials and the excellent mastering by the legendary Steve Hoffman. It's out of print but pretty readily accessible.

The obscure nature of the artists on Monster Bop and Horror Hop (equally excellent) make for ideal companion discs to the more accessible nature of the artists on These Ghoulish Things and Monster Rock 'N Roll.

Monster Bop and Horror Hop have minimal liner note information, whereas, Monster Rock 'n Roll and These Ghoulish Things have more extensive information; however, all these discs together are like having a first rate boxed set of hard to find nuggets.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome for a old style party, November 5, 2010

This is a very cool CD. If you want something different than the monster mash, this is it. They are all old songs fron the 60's - but they are still as effective today as they were in yester year. It would be awesome to have a zombie 1950's/60's themed party with this playing in the background..."just an idea"
