I bought this book because I was stuck in a car for a 13 hour road trip and needed an escape. I love books that can grab me, and pull me "out of the world" for awhile. This was just the book for that. From the very beginning you get sucked into Mina's complicated world of mystery, loss, excitement, betrayal, rediscovery, and love. I don't think the cover really portrays the book adequately. Mina isn't a fluffy heroine. Her love for her sister, Sarah and her connection with Max, and friendship with Grace make her genuine, likable, solid character.

I also like books I can recommend to my kids (and others) without worrying about the use of language, unpleasant violence, or uncomfortable sexual content. These Lying Eyes had all the elements of an exciting book, without crossing the line. I have no problem with my 13 year old daughter reading it, or my 70 year old Mother.

The worst part - waiting for the next book.

After her lonely and miserable middle school years, Mina is anxious about starting high school. Her only companions are 3 fiercely loyal sprites, "beloved imaginary friends who should have faded long ago," that only she can see - or so she thinks.

Mina is a spunky red-head that I loved the moment she swiped her older sister's scooter to drive to school when her jerk of an older brother left her behind to ride the bus. When Mina's love interest, Max, speaks to her for the first time, his deep voice sends a shiver down her spine...I totally know that feeling Mina! Yay for handsome guys with deep voices! I love that she does well in school and takes higher level classes, not because she is super smart or an overachiever, but because she dreams of going to a college with a warm beach and spending her summers traveling to exciting places like Europe and the Canary Islands.

I love Amanda's writing style. Her words do a beautiful job illustrating the story. The ending was perfect, in that it wraps up the story, but also leaves you wondering what is going to happen next. I am looking forward to more. I want to know more about Mina's family. I want to see Max and Mina's relationship continue to grow. I want to learn magic with Mina. I want to know more about the sprites and other magical creatures Mina can see. It is an enchanting magical world that is a fun place to be.

I read this book on my smartphone. I finished the book in less than two days, just because I liked the book so much. It has a story that I have not heard before. It, like many books, has a slow beginning, but really gets going within the first 3 chapters. It definitely makes it into my top 15 favorite books. I would, however, appreciate a little more detail into the fae and the havens and whatnot. Maybe in a sequel? Also, I kind of wished the ending was a bit more drawn out, but overall,a really good book.

It seems that the most popular books these days are vampires, warewolves or wizards. This is good an all, but now we have added to the collection. Witches have arrived and hopefully more to come. This book shares with the reader how amazing the magical world can be with a fresh take and renewed look. I would recommend this book to readers of all ages and look forward to what the future hold. Oh, and on a personal note, Amanda is awesome!

This was a wonderful first novel from Amanda A. Allen. This was a very engaging read. I really loved Mina and so many of the secondary characters, including Max and the sprites. It has everything I love in a book. It's got magic, mystery and even a bit of romance, yet is appropriate for all ages. It's a true coming of age story that any teen or adult can love. I can only hope I won't have to wait too long for the sequel!

I completely enjoyed reading this book! Fantastic YA fantasy, especially for an adult reader like me. Its refreshing to find good, clean literature to read. Excellent imagery and thorough character development. A compelling story that drew me in quickly and easily. Anxious for more. Impressed with Amanda's writing, especially for a first novel. Good job! If you like YA fantasy, this book is a must read!

The only thing I didn't like about this book is that I read it before a sequel was written. I loved it! It kept me guessing the whole time and was not filled with fluff (You know the kind you read through and say blah, blah, blah who cares let's get to the meat of the story!) I can't wait for the next installment of this one- I sure hope there will be one!!
