5.0 out of 5 stars So impressed!
I haven't been so excited to get a CD in years. I'll warn you ahead of time - these songs will be stuck in your head... you won't be able to stop singing them silently.

3.0 out of 5 stars Paolo!
Love the New Shoes song, but the others are a bit slower and sound a little like Jeff Buckley. Not a bad thing, just not as upbeat as what I had expected. Good CD though.

This guy is refreshing - in that I haven't heard anything NEW or DIFFERENT in years. Whether you're my age, or the age of my daughters (early 20's), you'll find this music addictive. When I first heard Paolo on the Craig Ferguson show, I was hooked. When sharing with my daughters they said, "Mom found really cool music". (not the typical response I get)

I'm in my 40's and some of these songs bring back those emotions from youth that life pushes far into your memory's recesses. You won't believe that this singer/songwriter is just 19.

This is the only review I've ever submitted - and I'm on Amazon daily. He is just THAT good.

Paolo Nutini makes a huge splash with his debut album, These Streets. Paolo displays a natural talent for singing and songwriting; and his voice is rich and full of masculine warmth. Just one listen to this CD proves it!

The track set begins with "Jenny Don't Be Hasty." Paolo sings with the style of a seasoned pro; this number about a woman he wants makes a strong start for this album! The electric guitar, drums and percussion make a good musical arrangement. "Last Request," another highlight of this fantastic album; lets Paolo sing with great sensitivity of how he wants one last time alone with a woman who doesn't love him anymore. The melody charms me with its beauty; and I predict that you will enjoy "Last Request" very, very much.

"These Streets," the title track of this album, begins with some pretty awesome guitar; and when Paolo comes in this number takes off like a jet! Paolo laments losing his childhood because in retrospect he realizes things were simpler for him back then. The guitar works wonders for this number; and the guitar alone with Paolo's voice makes "These Streets" a true masterpiece!

"White Lies" has another beautiful arrangement for the guitar; and "Loving You" lets Paolo sing happily of finding his one true love. Paolo also shows off his wide vocal range, sometimes singing a few words in falsetto--flawless!

The album ends with "Alloway Grove." This number starts with the drums and guitar; and when Paolo comes in he sings this perfectly! Paolo sings of his disappointment that the girl he loves is no longer there for him. The upbeat melody belies the sadness of the lyrics; but it all works well for Paolo and his musicians. The lengthy number works well.

The liner notes include the lyrics to all the songs except for some of the lyrics to "Alloway Grove;" and the artwork impresses me. We get some good shots of Paolo, too.

Paolo Nutini's first album sounds like a tour de force of a very seasoned talent--which is truly phenomenal since he's still rather young and this is only his first CD. I highly recommend this CD for fans of comparatively mellow rock and pop vocals.

Great job, Paolo!

Bought this album for wife's birthday in early February and have since listned to it at least 50 times. My wife has probably listened to it 500 times by now. We just love it.

To me the appeal lies partly in Nutini's vocal qualities (reminiscent of Paul McCartney), partly on the intelligence of the lyrics (clever rhymes and unusual word choices), and partly the authoritative, graceful arrangements. Each song is a finished work, a burnished gem, not some work-in-progress thrown in to fill space.

Thematically, the songs as a group convey the youthful joy in love and sex, innocence and sincerity, compassion and optimism--much like the best of that golden era of 1967-1973 when most of the really good rock-pop-r&b was being played on the then-new FM stations. Stylistically, I'm hearing The Beatles, Michael Bolton/Otis Redding, and maybe a little of Van Morrison. In short, it's highly original yet warmly familiar.

My favorite tracks are Last Request, These Streets and Millions, but there's not a lemmon in the bunch. I haven't been able to repeatedly listen to an album without getting good and sick of a few of the songs since about 1973. That's why I say it's the best album in decades. My wife and I are looking forward to the next one. I hope his touring schedule isn't making it too difficult to write. If it takes him a while, it will be worth the wait.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great! Very good CD., January 3, 2007
This review is from: These Streets (Audio CD)
I first saw Paolo Nutini on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson a few months ago, and he struck me. I made a note to remember his name, and went out to try and find his CD and realized it wasn't released. Finally I ordered it here on Amazon, not wanting to wait until January 30th for its US release. Every track is great.

Paolo has a great voice that has a unique quality about it. It isn't smooth sounding, but is beautiful. You can feel the passion when he sings. The CD contains a good variety of different songs, including your slow, muted tunes and songs that have me tapping my feet.

I have also watched live recordings from concerts Paolo has performed at and he has proven that he put on a great show. I look forward to hopefully seeing him in concert one day. He seems to have gained a lot of popularity in the UK, and I am willing to wager he will make his mark in the US as well. If he's only 19 and already as good as he is, I imagine he will produce more great music in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nutini rocks!!!, June 13, 2007
This review is from: These Streets (Audio CD)
Think soul...think hot guitar riffs...think about amazing lyrics about relationships and life into just one album...there is only one person I can think of who can accomplish this and that is Paolo Nutini. I heard of Nutini a year before the album was released in the U.S. and I was amazed by what I heard. Songs like "Rewind" and "Allowgrove" are amazing. But it is the songs like "Jenny Don't Be Hasty", "New Shoes", and "Loving You" that make this album as hot as it is. Just one listen to it and its first track and you will be hooked. Nutini is the real "it" and his career will surely launch with his raw and true style; something that is very unique among todays industry. My personal favorites are "Jenny Don't Be Hasty" "Rewind" "New Shoes" and "Loving Me." Buy the album and you will see exactly what I mean.

5.0 out of 5 stars This artist is going places, March 17, 2007
This review is from: These Streets (Audio CD)
I am always on the lookout for up and coming new singer songwriters to add to my collection so when I heard New Shoes on a Paste Magazine CD I knew Paolo Nutini was the perfect addition. For me, I can tell how good a CD is by how long it stays in my car's CD player. I have a long commute and no CD changer so I listen to the same CD over and over until I get tired of it. A mediocre CD is lucky to last a week. These Streets lasted over 2 months and when it was replaced it was immediately put on my MP3 player for at-work listening. Every song is a gem with some that sparkle just a tad more. My favorites are These Streets, a song about moving to an unfamiliar place, and Autumn, a beautiful and moving tribute to his late grandfather. Of course New Shoes is one of the best with catchy lyrics that you can't help but sing along with at the top of your lungs...well I can't anyhow ;)
All in all this is a great addition to any CD collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars This guy has a BIG future..., November 26, 2006
This review is from: These Streets (Audio CD)
I love this guy and his debut CD. Really, truly every single song is fantastic. I don't even have a favorite, they are all just soooo good. His ballads will melt your heart and his other songs make you want to dance or at least move around in your chair. Not only does he have a great voice, he is darling with his Scottish accent and Italian good looks. Get this CD...you will not be sorry

Paolo Nutini is a Scotish singer/songwriter, who is amazing. I started to listen to him while travelling in Ireland this summer. His lyrics and voice are soulful and remarkable for someone so young. It is a shame that American audiences do not know him already. His song "Last Request" is definately one of the strongest on the album, which includes some more pop inspired tunes like "Alloway Grove." The entire album is great - no low points to speak of - it is a great purchase and well worth the investment. Buy it now - you will not be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Paolo Nutini, January 25, 2007
This review is from: These Streets (Audio CD)
I'm sure this guy is about to blow up and get really popular. So pick up the Import and say you heard him first! This guy is going to be all over VH1's Top 20 Countdown in 2007.

"These Streets" is a very impressive debut. It's hard to believe he's only 18/19 years old. He has a great sound to him. He has a very soulful voice that sounds much older than he is.

It's sort of singer/songwriter-sounding but with a lot more production. I read that production was handled by one of Coldplay's producers. I think if you're a Coldplay fan, you'd probably dig Paolo.

I have a hard time categorizing this. I can only say that it falls into the category of "good music." He's kind of like a less-depressing, much better version of James Blunt. All ten tracks are solid - no real duds in the bunch. Good stuff from a promising artist!

(One minor gripe... the last track, which contains a Hidden Track, is 14 minutes long. So if you're going to rip this to your MP3 player, then you're stuck listening to the whole 14 minutes as one track. A minor annoyance for a good album.)
