October 1, 2003
Book 3 of Bells of Lowell. Timid yet alluring Daughtie Winfield finds herself in a precarious position when the new doctor casts his favor upon her. Though flattered by his attention, she is drawn to Liam Donohue, a local Irish artisan. As Daughtie and Liam work together to help runaway slaves, their friendship blossoms. But her work in the mills is threatened when a downturn in profits causes the Associates to decrease wages--resulting in plans for a strike. With the fate of the textile industry in an upheaval, will her hopes for love be thwarted as dissention infiltrates life in Lowell?

5.0 out of 5 stars Peterson and Miller once again make a great writing team!, December 1, 2003

This review is from: These Tangled Threads (Bells of Lowell Series #3) (Paperback)
The third book in the Bells of Lowell series captures the story of Daughtie as she fights for the equality of every citizen, regardless of heritage. From the implications of her association with an Irish worker to her stand of beliefs due to workplace conditions, her growth as a woman of independence is tested, as well as her faith. And as friendship grows to love, she risks losing the friendships she's held dear since her new life in Lowell began. In the space a few short years, Daughtie has emerged as a strong young woman, capable of making her own decisions... even ones that those closest to her would view as serious mistakes. A must read for those who have already come to love DAUGHTER OF THE LOOM and A FRAGILE DESIGN, and those who value historical fiction. ~~Ellie Schroder, owner of The Christian Fiction Site

3.0 out of 5 stars Good escapist reading with a touch of history, January 8, 2009
This review is from: These Tangled Threads (Bells of Lowell Series #3) (Paperback)
I picked up this book because I had previously read the first book in the Broodmore legacy, only to realize that only one other one was out. Tracie Peterson, when she authors by herself, is not my first choice for a read (she always drags out an ending unnecessarily), but I have found that the books are much more enjoyable when authored with Judith Miller.

The characters were not developed too much, but you could always count on them to act the way they did. I appreciated how much history was interwoven into the story as well (I am a big history buff). This was the first historical Christian romance novel that I have read where the main characters were not rich. I enjoyed seeing the other side for once (after all, aren't most of us middle class anyway?) and could sympathize with the struggles of the characters. This novel seemed more real than the others I have read by the same author. As always, the portrayal of the main character as having a steadfast faith was nice. I don't know why I am drawn to that, but I am. I think that if, by the end of the book, the author makes you want to open up your own Bible, then he or she has succeeded. This book did just that- it strengthened my desire to be close to God and pointed out where I can improve in my Christian life in a gentle manner.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is interested in early American history, Christian romance, or both.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great, April 15, 2004

This review is from: These Tangled Threads (Bells of Lowell Series #3) (Paperback)
When Daughtie befriends a local Irish artisan, Liam, people start to talk. Daughtie is slowly falling for Liam, but everyone is warning her against it, even Liam himself. When Liam's home becomes a stop in the Underground Railroad, Daughtie offers to help him, but if they get caught...
While this book wasn't as good as the first two it's still very good, and worth adding to your collection.
