Biography

Gossip is whispered, cigarettes are smoked, arms are crossed and uncrossed, and then the band takes the stage. An anticipation and hush that could only be described as electric takes hold.

A beat begins - minimal, sparse. Single white beams cast shadows against the ceiling and crowd. What could either be hours or minutes later, the kraut-rock intro turns to verse and the crowd begins to sing along:… Read more in Amazon's She Wants Revenge Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Reminds me of...WHO F***ING CARES!!!, March 15, 2006

Yes they sound like a mix of bauhaus and the faint. Yes they have been accused of ripping off everyone from joy division to depeche mode to interpol....But does it really matter?

These songs are infectious and She Wants Revenge puts on a live show that will erase all reservations about embracing this goth-rock revival.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fun new entry into the retro post-punk movement, January 12, 2006
By
SandmanVI (Glen Allen, VA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: These Things - EP (Audio CD)
Given their penchant for writing high-quality, post-punk inspired music, the comparisons to Interpol are inevitable and also fairly accurate. SWR, like the fashionable boys from the NYC, churn out swanky, dark songs underpinned with nervous anxiety and a paranoid sexuality. However there is a rather major difference between them that no one has mentioned... I mean beyond the cosmetic difference that SWR uses more electronics. On the heels of their excellent first album, Interpol clearly became embarrassed by all of the direct comparisons to Joy Division and shifted their sound for the 2nd album - a disappointing album in my opinion. However She Wants Revenge seem perfectly happy in their skin regardless of whether it is viewed as derivative. Their comfort comes through on the album in the form of a confident, although somewhat introspective, swagger.

All of the songs here are upbeat and danceable despite their Goth overtones, so anyone interested in mildly subversive music should have fun with this. It isn't a particularly complex album in concept but it makes up for it in attitude. Atmospherically it's a good album but lacks the depth of true postpunk ala Bauhaus/Tones On Tail, Cure, JD, etc. Any linkage with The Smiths is way off the mark (and any subsequent dissing of The Smiths by other reviewers is even further off the mark). In summary, this is bound to be a hot band and I greatly anticipate the full length.

5.0 out of 5 stars Next Big Thing, November 11, 2005
This review is from: These Things - EP (Audio CD)
I've been hearing this band on Sirus Radio (Left of Center) for the last few months, and I feel in love with "Tear You Apart". After searching the net forever with no results they finally started popping up on my searches latly. And now they have a full lengh album coming out soon. This band is truly going to be big. I too love NIN and this band has me just as excited, not that they are alike, but it's a whole new sound, something fresh, dark, and full of angst. Goth chicks are going to love it! I expect we'll hear a lot from them to come. There are now five songs from their new album playing on Sirus on regular rotation and it's only a matter of time before they hit FM.
