THESE UNITED STATES, with a brief and tender and appropriate two page forward by Walter Cronkite, is a breathtakingly beautiful panorama of everything that is beautiful about America. Beleaguered though this country may be in the eyes of its citizens and the eyes of the world beyond our shores, take respite and restoration in the large color photographs of the magnificent landscapes from Atlantic through the Midwest to the Pacific, from every season in our woods and forests, the snow-capped towers, the buildings and monuments, and the little town celebrations and very personal gifts that remind us of how magical is America the Beautiful. Photographer Jakes Rajs is highly regarded for his photography from all the major magazines in the country and it seems he has culled the finest examples of his vision for this moving, tender, majestic portrait of The United Stetes. Given its Limited Edition status I would urge all gift givers of art books to consider this very special volume both for your own home and for those you love.

While looking for a book about the United States for a cousin in Italy who is intrigued by the United States, I came across this one. Since the cousin speaks some English but is not fluent, this book was perfect because it is a "picture book" of beautiful photographs. Each page contains a photo, pure and simple. The descriptions of each photo are in the back of the book, where the page number of the photo and a smalll photo accompany the description.

It was a large, heavy book to lug around Italy prior to giving it to him but it was worth it, seeing how pleased he was to look at (and identify some of) many U.S. landmarks and the countryside. A nice gift as a coffee table book.

One especially nice thing, Amazon's price was far lower than what it cost in a local bookstore.

After searching local book stores for a book of large photos of U.S. landmarks and things that make America great, we found just what we were looking for on AMAZON. An amazingly low price on such a large, nice hardback book. We gave it to the foster family of our son we adopted from Thailand. We knew they couldn't read English so we wanted a book of large photos of our country. PERFECT! Ordered one for myself also!

I was looking for the perfect gift for the Asian lady that I have been tutoring in English for the past year. Her visit to the U.S. was over and she was going back home. I wanted to give her "a piece of America" to take home with her to help her remember the places she had seen and to give her some idea of what else was here for her if she had the chance to come back. This book was perfect in every way. The photography is just exquisite, and covers just about every possible locale and scene in the country - the shores, mountains, countryside and cities. It is not only a photo-essay, it is truly ART. The pages are large, so one can see all the sharp detail in the photos. What I particularly love about this book is that there is no text in the main body of the book - just photos. However, in the back of the book, thumbnails of each photo are replicated along with just enough text to explain the what and where of each scene. This is not only a coffee table book, it is one that can be viewed and enjoyed over and over again. Every time I opened it I found something new to marvel at. It is brilliantly done and positively gorgeous.

This is one beautiful book that I would recommend to anyone who is proud of our country and enjoys visiting in any or all of our 50 states.

The book was packaged very poorly so the corners were damaged. Sold as new but definitely looks used very expensive to look like that. My husband had seen this book and loved it....I gave it to him for a present. I would not order from that vendor again.

I bought this book for a friend of mine in the Czech Republic. It contains such beautiful panoramas of the beauty of this great land and I wanted he and his family to share in that. They have visited this land twice. Once we traveled East and the other time we traveled West. I wanted him to see our great cities, etc. I gave this a 5 star rating because i liked the face that there were no explanations on the pages, just the pictures. The Index contains a small pictrue and gives the explanation of the larger one on the page. It is a magnificent book. I also like the presentation. It is beautifully bound. I highly recommend this book to anyone.
