This entry into the Philadelphia Phillies history library is a loosely structured series of stories, ruminations and first person observations from Larry Shenk the long time PR publicist for the club. Shenk, who along with former broadcaster Chris Wheeler, is one of the club's "lifers," those who have spent the vast majority of their careers with the Phillies and who have witnessed the ups an downs of the club over the last 40+ years. Actually longer for Shenk, who joined the club in 1964 - a year that wound up perhaps the darkest in club history.

The biggest takeaway theme of the Shenk book, all the more relevant given the struggles of the current iteration of the Phillies, is the critical importance of the scouting and player development functions, an aspect the Phillies struggle with currently, but has been the foundation of their success in the pennant years of the late 70s and early 2000's.

But for those of us who are life members of Phillies nation, those fans who have suffered with and celebrated this team over the years, Shenk gives us many insider stories and anecdotes that provide color and perspective on what we witnessed from the stands. If These Walls Could Talk is a solid addition to your Phillies library.

The Baron's book was a terrific read--- full of memories of the Phillies from their 1964 season to the 70's, 80's, 90's and to the 21st century. You'll read first hand about the Phillies personalities that we read about on the front page of the sports section for half-a-century. The author writes eloquently of his first season in Major League Baseball and pays tribute to some of the greatest Phillies of all-time. If you are a Phillies fan, you will love this book. It's bound to be a classic story book for baseball fans everywhere

Philadelphia Phillies fans will love this book!!! It is written by the long time Public Relations guru for the Phillies. He does a nice job taking the reader behind the scenes and includes several player points of view. The chapters on the championship years are very well done -- it was almost like I was reliving them all over again. It's a page turner for die-hard Phlly fans like myself who has bled red for 52 years. I'm not sure of the mass appeal for those of us in the City of Brotherly Love will surely enjoy it.

Whether a Phillies' fan or not, this book is a must for any Baseball enthusiast who'd treasure a heartfelt insight into the evolution of a splendid Baseball organization from the only man qualified to provide it. It is chock full of creditable, once-in-a-lifetime stories about its players, front office and important events as they enfolded, told with humor and credence. For a man who uniquely remained with the same organization for over 50 years, no one person could do a better job of sharing never before stories with those of us who can't wait to read them. A keeper and a treasure..

Fantastic read, especially Phillie's fans; An enjoyable read about the Veteran's stadium era;
Larry has put together a look into the management and players in a way that brought back memories for me of those days.
And insights into those events and people,

Thanks, Larry Shenk for writing this,
