This is a great piece of doom metal in a genre that has been fairly barren of late, the vocals are fairly light, but otherwise it has a sound or atmosphere somewhat similar to swallow the sun's 'hope' album which is another excellent recent doom release. 'This barren skin' and 'Red moon' are the standout tracks for me on this album.Also check out Lycanthia's 'within the walls' EP for a mix of doom and gothic sounds.

My GOD, this is the most amazing piece of music that I've purchased in a lonnng while. It's so wonderful and RARE when an entire album can give you chills up your spine. I'm quite sad that the primary genius behind this cd left the band, as subsequent works of this group have been found lacking in my opinion, but man...if Funeral only released THIS cd, I'd be happy. It's beautifully melancholy without being too lugubrious (as a lot of doom tends to lean towards), and I can listen to it for hours and hours on end without tiring. BUY THIS!

If this album only contained one song, and if that song was "Red Moon," I'd still be satisfied. The seven-minute buildup to a simple but perfect guitar solo is one of my favorite things in all of music. At least buy that song.

The whole album is very similar - a very monotonous pace that lulls you and makes an impact at specific moments.

It is very unfortunate that Funeral does not have a larger following. This music is not mainstream to say the least it transcends the common boundaries of known popular music. Sweeping melodies hatched in the abyss to halcyon hyperborean heights is a feeling one gets accustomed by the depth of this band. Highly recommended beautiful depressing music beyond this mortal sphere. This and the latest album are their best releases to date please support this band by buying their merchandise god knows they need it.
