Our ladies ministry is using this book in our Women's Bible Study this year. On the whole I like the study and find it to be a useful tool, but it's important to realize that it is just a tool.

One of the things that is both good and bad about this study is that it is so self-contained. The scripture text under study is printed in the chapter. The downside of this is that it is difficult to stop yourself from reading the footnotes and commentary provided. I feel this really prevents the reader from coming to their own conclusions about the scripture prior to answering the study questions. I don't usually have a problem with MacArthur's interpretations, but the study is so structured that you miss some of the nuances that are present in the scriptures themselves. While I don't believe that MacArthur thinks that what he is choosing to focus on in the study is all there is in those verses, his firm style tends to leave you with that impression. I highly recommend reading and studying the scriptures themselves before opening this book so that you are not overly influenced by any one teacher's interpretation. MacArthur has valuable things to teach us, but the Holy Spirit may have more things to say than just these.
