I had bought this product mainly for They Came from Beyond Space which was one of the lesser realeases from Amicus, the UK film company, who in the 1960's and early 70's took Hammer films on at producing low budget horror titles.

Amicus were best known for their portmanteau titles where several brief stories were tied together with an openeing scene where the main character from each story would be brought together in a situation to tell their story. Each story would climax with the story-teller telling of their escape or how their "dream" ended. The movie as a whole would climax with the characters realing or being told that there were dead afterall.

They Came from beyond Space was a departure from the usual format and although Amicus' sister company Aaru had made the 2 cinematic Doctor Who
adventures with Peter Cushing, the budget here was very thin indeed.

Directed by Freddie Francis who was equally at home with television, (Man In A Suitcase) as the big screen (Dr. Terror's House of Horrors), he made the best of a poor script and the lack of money.

The action and the performances are the best thing about this movie,
Robert Hutton, an American domiciled in England at the time stars with Jennifer Jayne in a very sub-"Quatermass" story where the worls's future
is reliant upon the silver plate in the hero's head, if we are not to be invaded from outer space!

The first film in the double bill is Night Fright which was so unforgettable that I have already done so.

The real problem with this DVD is the transfer. It is truly apalling.
I will admit that the price of the item is low, but there should be a minimum standard for DVD releases. I have a 20 year old VHS recording in long play taken from the TV that is better than this. If this is the general standard of [...] products, I would suggest exercising great care when buying.

In conclusion 4 stars for They Came from beyond Space, 0 stars for Night Fright and minus 3 stars for the DVD quality.
