5.0 out of 5 stars John Henry is a harp epiphany
There's no need to purchase the entire album, but please don't overlook the 43 second version of "John Henry" No band, nothing but Walter on the harp, utterly revealing of the subtle genius that is Big Walter. 1.0 out of 5 stars Weak backing band
If this is the album recorded in Canada in the 70s with a woman singer -besides the interview & a couple of solo Walter #s -the album is pretty weak.

There's no need to purchase the entire album, but please don't overlook the 43 second version of "John Henry" No band, nothing but Walter on the harp, utterly revealing of the subtle genius that is Big Walter. Not as flashy as Little Walter, but this is the best example of pure tone and effortless fluidity that I have ever heard, and I am a harp maniac. I practice, attempt, to replicate this track every day, as part of my ritual, devotional harmonica practice, and after 24 years, I ain't there yet.

A musician reveals his style, tone, timing and rhythm, that is, his essence, in a moment, and this is just such a glimpse of Big Walter, the Eternal.
