5.0 out of 5 stars Going on ten years..., December 20, 2004
By Henrietta Miller (New York, NY USA) - See all my reviews
And still rarely leaves the stereo. Perfumed Garden says it perfectly: "I would happily spend the rest of my life in a perfumed garden with you... That's too easy. That's too easy!" Exactly. Brilliant, and yes, everyone's been ripping them off ever since, but screw the rest. Go for the originals and be glad you did.

4.0 out of 5 stars excellent raw pop, September 25, 2003
By d.g velez (mission hills california) - See all my reviews
these guys are pretty much unheard to the listeners of 90's alternative music but the tvp's have been in influence on nirvana to pavemment. But the music is what counts. this is an album of early recordings. this is an exellent tvp album to start off with because aside from dont the kids.... this is pretty much pop all around except for some exceptions.it kicks off with 3 wishes and david hockneys diary which are comparable to any great pop songs of the 60's. king and country is a remake of the birds 8 miles which is right on par with the original. 1 or 2 throwaways but are easily made up with other great numbers like when emily cries and anxiety block
. Any fan of pop music should make this purchase and hear another great band from the 80's(the replacements) cause its proof that 80's was'nt all hairspay and 15 minutes of fame. also prices run alittle high on the cds so one might try half.com since im sure not many will read this.

5.0 out of 5 stars LISTEN to this Television , April 16, 2007
Personalities that is! An absolute marvelous album all around. The opening track "Three Wishes" is hauntingly beautiful with just enough added power, and probably my favorite track on here. After your first listen, you'll want to hear it again. This songwriter and band leader Daniel Treacy is a pure pop genius! One of the Better English post-punk bands to have come out in the late '70s and early '80s. At least of the post-punk bands I have heard. On the song "Painter Man" - Treacy sounds a bit like Bob Dylan. The next track "Psychadelic Holiday" sounds like a catchy little number out of the '60s, singing "It's Yours to Take, It's All For Free" - as a chorus line.
"They Could Have Been Bigger Than the Beatles"(kind of an ironic title since they were never a commercial success) is the Television Personalities 3rd release in 1982. Their self-titled debut came out in 1981. I do prefer this and I only own these two so far.
All very soothing and classic pop and you can tell they laid the groundwork for future artists including The Pastels- another favorite of mine.
