Book Description

February 26, 2008
Statistics reveal an unsettling exodus from the church by younger people who are 'spiritual but not religious.' This is no passing trend---but there is great hope. Led by author Dan Kimball, the six interactive sessions in this small group DVD with participant's guide will help you explore and respond truthfully, caringly, and engagingly to six of the most common objections and misunderstandings emerging generations have about the church and Christianity. Through interviews with emerging non-Christians and teaching by Dan Kimball, this video-based curriculum will help churches address these objections. Includes discussion questions and resource listings. Six sessions consist of: 1. Why emerging generations are changing 2. Objection #1: The church is an 'organized religion' with a political agenda; Objection #2: The church is judgmental and negative 3. Objection #3: The church is male dominated and oppresses females 4. Objection #4: The church is homophobic 5. Objection #5: The church feels Christianity is right and all other religions are wrong 6. Objection #6: The church is full of 'fundamentalists' who take the Bible too literally. They Like Jesus but Not the Church Curriculum Kit includes one small group DVD-ROM, one participant's guide.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Stuff, May 19, 2008

I've seen Dan make this presentation live three times at different venues. But this curriculum is a great way to learn what Dan has to say without seeing him live. The dvd's and discussion materials are "very to the point" and creatively put together. You get more out of these materials in a shorter time than seeing Dan speak for a full day.

I also like the other stuff that comes on the DVD. You also get sermon outlines and short clips to use for your messages, if you want to preach on the series or any of the individual topics. There is also graphics and publicity materials for use in your church that match the book cover.

What's missing in these materials? The Q & A interaction that you get if you see Dan live. Though he has a great way of engaging his audiences in a live setting, you will be very engaged with these materials, too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Practical, honest, and right on, April 9, 2008
This review is from: They Like Jesus but Not the Church Curriculum Kit: Responding to Culture's Objections to Christianity (Paperback)
This study is something that i feel all church leaders should be participating in. As disciples and missionaries in our own culture, it is imperative that we see and understand what those outside the church see inside the church. I've had some of these same discussions with students, co-workers and even family members about many of these same misconceptions. I've started to use this study in our council meetings and other leadership meetings to help expose all who are in a leadership role in our community to see those outside the church and possibly help them see form the eyes of those who like Jesus but not the church.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for church leaders, Christians, April 5, 2010

This review is from: They Like Jesus but Not the Church Curriculum Kit: Responding to Culture's Objections to Christianity (Paperback)
This addresses important glaring problems that force nonbelievers to not even consider Jesus because Christians are so horrible to them. The author has a heart to have people come to Jesus and he wants Christians to get their issues out of the way. He is honest about his own history and struggles. He interviews people to get their perspectives. The video takes a while to get to the menu screens but has some good content to go with the small group questions.
