i saw these guys live with thursday and sparta, and i felt that they broke down so many barriers with their music, and connected with the audience in a way i have never seen a support band, especially a relatively unknown support band, accomplish. they came on stage four random guys with a cleverish, indie sounding name, and they walked off four guys who had rocked out the black cat in DC in a way which i can only compare to the DC band frodus... also, i felt they were reminiscent of modest mouse (similar vocals), but musically they were much heavier.
the kit were amazing at building musical tension, the climaxes of their songs are powerful - something i feel a lot of the new wave emo/indie bands cannot achieve.
i am being a little silly here, seeing as i am reviewing an album which i do not own, but i have heard the songs - my friends bought the CD after the show (it left a powerful impact on us all - but i spent all my money on the ticket to the show), and i feel passionately enough that these guys have something to offer that i recommend this album very highly. it's a breath of fresh air to a scene that is now stagnant since it went 'overground'.

The story begins like this: My friend, a longtime resident of New York and a bonafide hipster, kept telling me about "the band who defies gravity." I caved, and went to see them open for another band at the Knitting Factory. Suffice to say, I didn't even stay for the main act. These guys are friggin' amazing. Do NOT miss them live if you ever have the chance. The album is also superb. Take my word for it.

Like the above (or below) reviewer, I had also gotten my first exposure to this band via a show with Sparta and Thursday, so in preparation, I had dl'ed most of their cd, and if I liked them, I would buy it. So we get to the show, and the DKit were easily the most amazing part of the show. I had to keep on picking my friggin jaw off of the ground, these guys blew me away so much. So I went and got their CD and I'll tell you for sure that these gus do NOT disappoint. Among the ten tracks of this CD, I' only say that "Hurricane Designed for People" and "Sitting Still Talking About Jets" are subpar (but that's only on scale with this band, they're still amazing songs). This group makes the transfer from a dynamic live act to a superb recorded one, keeping the overall energy level high and the emotion raw; this CD definitely will cause you feel something, whether the pent up rage of the explosive "Another Great Champion..." or the false joy of "The Euphio Question," based off of a Kurt Vonnegut short story of the same name. Only thing is, it's not really an easy first listen: the above "Another Great Champion..." builds up in what is essentially an intro for about 4 out of the song's 6 minutes: sure, it's great if you've heard it before, but it's not likely you'd appreciate it the first time around.
So, in short, buy this CD! It's one of my favorite CD's of all time and has hardly left my CD player since I got it, which is amazong cause I have such a short attention span (musically).
Also, if you're interested in seeing them live, drop by DCN.com and check out some webcasts, especially the one for Pseudo.com. It doesn't quite capture the experience of a real DKit show, but it comes close.

This cd is so quality- It is definitely my favorite discovery of a new band, having come across some mp3s by curiosity through epitonic.com.
I am in love with their sound. An amazing debut cd.
I am determined to see them live sometime, and I wouldn't doubt they would make an awesome show. So even with just the cd, it is incredibly absorbing, the tension and vocals and slow parts building up to searing parts just take hold, excite.
Download their stuff, and/or see a show and if you were in love with it like me, get the cd.

A very nice discovery. Their sound thunders with wild frentic guitars, swanky and screamy vocals, a tight drum section... and you get The Detatchment Kit. A well put together album, they posess a certain energy that I havnt heard for awhile. so yes pick up this album and eat some s'mores, cuddle with your girl/guy, drink some wine, and draw pictures.
