Great stuff from Cliff, April 3, 2009
This review is from: They Said It Wouldn't Last (My 50 Years in Music) (Audio CD)
It hasn't been easy -- being a Cliff Richard fan in America, but this set is a "Don't miss." There are a great number of tracks that have never been available before that "50 Years" brings to the surface. Now, in his 6th decade as a vocalist, Cliff Richard continues his outstanding career with integrity and excellence. This is much more than a "Greatest Hits" package. It's a wonder that some of these songs have had such a long "shelf life" before being released....like the entire concert from Tokyo, with "Olivia" (Olivia Newton John) as one of Cliff's backup singers.
The variety of both songs and delivery has been a trademark of Cliff's. He can "Do it all," which this collection aptly shows.

All things Cliff, October 13, 2008
This review is from: They Said It Wouldn't Last (My 50 Years in Music) (Audio CD)
This is Fred's wife Niñez who orders the Cliff stuff...
I'm a little disappointed that this CD set is not available on Amazon after all. Although I have most of the original CDs, I'm excited about adding the set to my collection. I was hoping I'd receive it before I fly to Scotland to see Cliff Richard in concert on November 30. So I'll buy it in Scotland. By the way, the Cliff concert DVDs I ordered from Amazon made me want to see my lifelong singing idol live in concert. I won't be dreaming much longer!
Happy Birthday, Sir Cliff, tomorrow!

A MISSED OPPORTUNITY TO DO A DECENT JOB, November 3, 2011
This review is from: They Said It Wouldn't Last (My 50 Years in Music) (Audio CD)
First I must say I do not own this box set, however I have listened to it online.I am not a huge fan of Cliff, but I have known of him ever since he first appeared on TV and radio in the later 50's,girlfriends at the time loved him,I prefered Elvis. However looking back,I do like his early rockin' songs before he went too soft. This box set for my purpose is OTT,as it contains far too much,BUT I HAVE DISCOVERED AN INTERESTING FACT,the first 3 CDs in this box set of 8 are available individually and so I bought the first one,"The Early Years" as it covers the period I like the most and it covers it quite well, with excellent sound quality and stereo versions of the songs in most cases,(his very early tracks were never recorded in stereo),so about 7 out of 10 for that. There are several top 20 tracks missing so it does not warrant 10 out of 10.
Where I think this box set really lets itself down is the number of mono tracks, when perfect stereo versions are readily available, this is as far as I am concerned a sin of biblical proportions and is one reason why I have given only 3 stars. The other reason is the price,as I do not think it offers good,or even fair value for money.Possibly more than the first 3 CDs are available separately,if so it could be a better option to cherry pick exactly what you want.
As I have said in my title,EMI had a golden, even platinum opportunity to do a decent job and what they have done varies between excellent as in CD1 to terrible as in all the later tracks in mono and not stereo.
To sum up,recommended in parts, cherry pick to your own needs any individual CDs if available.Do see my other Cliff reviews, including "The Early Years."
