Book Description

August 1, 2006
What if your family life was like a circus all the time?

It’s not obvious at first, but slowly, you realize all the dreams and visions you had of getting married and having a family are not turning out as you envisioned, sort of like when you promise to bake a cake for a special occasion. You carefully prepare it, making sure all the right ingredients are added, mixing and beating and fluffing about, but despite all your efforts, it comes out of the oven flat as a tack.

Only in this case, it’s your husband and your kids, and NOT the cake that is just not quite right, despite your efforts! You ask yourself, WHAT DID I DO WRONG? The problem is nobody can tell you. Not really, not them, not the professionals, and in the end, even you can’t work it out. All you know is there is this thing called ADHD, and THEY’VE got it!

It manifests itself so subtly at first, you don’t even realize it. When you do, it’s too late—you can’t give them back! The doctors try and help (not all of them, mind you), and the schools aren’t designed to help. The husband doesn’t help. Then there is you.

This is what my book is about from a very personal introspective point of view. I reveal our experiences and the challenges our life has brought us. Very importantly, I highlight the need within the education system for our children to be catered to and understood. This is not forthcoming at this time to kids who appear normal but genuinely need a special approach--the consequences are dire.

Those of you who are in the same boat will relate. Perhaps those of you who must deal with us and our families can learn or at least experience life through our story.

About the Author

I am Australian-born, and my parents migrated to Australia postwar from Europe.

I grew up in a multicultural environment attending both Australian and Ukrainian schools on weekends. I am bilingual and can also read and write in both languages. Well, English also, obviously!

I have never really been a proactive person in terms of causes, but for some reason, I felt compelled to tell our story so that others can benefit and some things may change for the better for families suffering with ADD and ADHD. I’m sure you as reader will relate to some of the things I discuss.

It has certainly been a learning experience and has not left me "untouched." Perhaps you too will find yourselves thinking, I know exactly how she feels. I hope you enjoy the book.

This book really could have used an editor-- it has misspellings and punctuation errors everywhere!
