Remember H2O Here.,
By handofdoom "handofdoom" (Brooklyn, NY United States) - See all my reviews

This is the cd that I like to remember H2O with - its really dark melodic punk/hardcore. Its one of the best cds of the genre as well.Even though they well ... went against everything they stood for with their first album (and "sold out", went to a major label, changed their genre to the fit the trends, etc.) this album still stands the test of time. If you're into their newer stuff but haven't checked out any of their earlier work, check this album about and give a listen to the bands that they have tattooed onto themselves while your at it.

GREAT ALBUM! H2O AT ITS BEST!!,

If you are a fan of Punk music, then this CD needs to be in your collection. The first Epitaph release for H2O is definitely their strongest...even though all four of their albums are fantastic... These NYC Hardcore guys keep it positive and put on the best live performances that I've seen. They exude energy and Toby keeps it real by hopping in the crowd on a regular basis. H2O are definitely at the top of the list of all the new school punk bands. I could go on and on about how these guys rock, but you'll just have to experience it for yourselves. Buy this album!! You will not be disappointed.

not the best, yet still good,

Of all three h20 albums i would have to say this one is not the best, but its far from bad. h20 is a great band so all of their stuff has its uniqueness, though i would recommend their new one and their oldest one, but hey give this one a try too.

This and F.T.T.W. are awesome albums and I can't wait to get their self titled cd. Oh yeah, if you ever get a chance to see H2O live, DO NOT MISS IT.

They take the "hard" out of "hardcore".,

When I initially heard this record, I immediately noticed something was missing from the music.. but I couldn't quite put my finger on what was wrong. After a few listens, I came to the conclusion that the production ruins the record. Their guitar sound isn't heavy, but they don't have a Minor Threat-esque abrasive buzzsaw sound either. The end result is really flat and unaffecting. This would have been better with a different producer.

a bucket of water to the face,

This is one hardcore album that stands out from the crowd--the songs are catchy more often than not, and the band manages to keep above water, not falling into the mire of sound-alike punk. The energy on this album is off the charts, warm and crazy. Some punk is dumb, some is good...this album is good. More than that, it's unique.

Debut albums usually get old after a while, so I thought this would be kind of a shi**y album, but this is quite possibly the best CD ever released by Epitaph. It is all original, I cant think of one band that sounds even a little bit like h2o. I give it 5 stars because I cant give it 10. It practically never leaves my cd player. The messages in the songs are good, the songs never get old, and they dont put a lot of effort into their music, thats what punk is all about

H2O shows lots of promise in showing the beginning of a great band. This album pumps out some great songs like "Everready" and "Thicker Than Water". A very good CD

Just buy the first one,

I gave this 2 stars as opposed to 1 based on the understanding that nothing could ever have lived up to the first album (which, in fact, is in my CD player right now). The songs here aren't bad, but they're weak. They're formula. If anybody else had put this out, it'd be worth 3 or even 4 stars, but this isn't H2O. These guys are capable of so much more. Signing to Epitaph was a mistake. They went right back on their own message and forgot their roots. I was so disappointed in this record that when i got it i traded it for a Judge CD that i already had on tape. Hope you guys do better next time, man.

Unique, hardcore,
This review is from: Thicker Than Water (Audio CD)
They've got their own unique sound which already puts them high on my list. Added to this, are a whole slew of catchy songs that really get you going. Standout tracks include Everready, Universal Language, Sacred Heart, I See it in Us, and Go. Excellent cd, excellent punk . . . go for it. |
