"Thief in the theater" is a book from "American Girl" series, about Kit Kittredge, young girl growing up during years of Great Depression. This time, Kit solves the mystery, while volunteering at the small town theatre that is going to play "Macbeth". The book is fun to read and is a "page turner" for young readers, and at the same time it describes this difficult historical period without being overly didactic.

The illustrations reminded me of the illustrated books from my own childhood; they are beautiful and truly representative of the era.
I also liked the historical reference pages about the theater at the end of the book. It is another starting point for curious minds to follow up.

I think, this is a wonderful book for girls of any age. My daughter finished the book in one sitting and immediately went to buy more books from these series. We ended up buying children's version of "Macbeth", as well, as per my daughter's request. (Not bad for a side benefit!)

Overall, I would recommend this book to any kid 8-11 years old that likes mystery or history books, even though it has a little bit more "girl's appeal".

Another outstanding book by one of the best writers of the History Mystery Books published by American Girl about 10-12 years ago. Great to read further adventures about Kit Kittredge, the AG who grew up during the great depression. Also always enjoy a good mystery. Is being read now by my 35 yr old dghtr, who will then read it to my 5 yr old gr dgtr --this book appeals to 3 generations! Wish MY parents were alive to have read it...

this book was not descriptive at all!!!Its gets really boring, its really hard to ge into,it also has some very difficult words in it.I would not reccomend this book its a waste of your money.DONT BUY IT!!!!!
